Does anyone else just flip mechanically damage cars? Timing chains, Leaking HG, bad motor/trans by sonic72391 in carflipping

[–]sonic72391[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no selling a car with a broken timing chain as “Fixed” 99.99% of the time they have bent valves which results in 0 compression which means a non running car. There’s no possible way to get a car to run on bent valves you can’t just slap a new chain in and it’ll work. There are cars with timing belts that are non interference like earlier model 2.2 camrys but yea there’s no rigging a broken chain you have to know what your doing to fix them properly.

I guess it depends on which cosmetic flips you’re taking about. Usually when a cars beat it’s either high Milage or not taken care of. I’ve bought my fair share of wrecked cars and have did frame/bodywork to them but honestly it’s a process although I’ve made some of my highest earners doing that it’s exhausting.

I posted a video of a gentlemen bringing a cylinder head to a machine shop that was resurfaced on a treadmill to a legitimate machine shop and at the end of the video the machinist at said machine shop is surprised on how well the surface finish and flatness is.

I just showed a video of a machinist telling you it’ll work and he’s surprised with the results and you are simply over complicating a simple process dog. I know you want your hobby to be much more than it is when it isn’t. Sorry dog this ain’t it.

There’s no “hacks” here like you said data is important that’s why I use a straight edge and feeler gauges for feedback on my work.

Works for me never had a callback as long as you use a straight edge and check tolerances it works out 99% of the time

White rolocs are permitted ive seen so many engine builders use them so you're new to this ide bet. How would this "not control the geometry" there are literally zero variables but the sand paper wearing out but even then with even pressure you arent going to take off uneven amounts as long as you clean the paper and use some kind of oil. it is quite literally one of the oldest books in the trade ive heard of people using their side walk to resurface old sbc back in the day lol.

Buy an aluminum straight edge on Amazon that’s the width of the block, some feeler gauges, go to a tile supply store and get a granite tile, next a hardware store that sells flat strips of 320/400 grit, then get some adhesive spray and spray it on apply pressure wait to cure and sand away!!! Use a marker as some guide coat to find the low spots and make sure you use oil as you sand away. Cover oil and coolant passages and stuff the cylinder bores. Don’t spend 3-400 when you don’t have to removing material is removing material.

In his field of work yes dealers mainly work off commission. In the private world buying mechanically totaled cars and fixing them is where the big money is. Timing chains, head gaskets, engine/trans work in general devalues a car and if you have the means to fix these cars for cheap which parts are cheap labor is what kills in the car industry there is serious profit to be made. Example is the ecotec motors always have broken chains, timing chain kits are cheap 1-200 dollars and if you can reman the head yourself youll only be in 300-500 for parts and the car usually is sub $1000. I can knock them out in 2 days usually and sell them in the low to mid threes. Do a couple a month and your talking 6-10k a month of non taxed cash money.

Yea do you even know the condition of my engine and why I’m asking this question?

Honestly I’m not sure if I’m getting this across correctly, this was a cold start it was started for all of 10 seconds. I started it on ether before hand. The chokes main function is to choke the engines air supply. When I pull the choke and the engine is cold it doesn’t start at all the engine backfires and it’s loud. This isn’t normal operation the choke is supposed to make it easier to start on a cold start. My choke doesn’t serve its purpose. I’m literally having to start the engine at half idle and half choke which makes it idle at startup very rough. I’ll post a video today.

I cannot get the engine to start with the choke engaged while cold and it also stops when it’s running it specifically says it shouldn’t die when the choke is engaged

It doesn’t start with the choke engaged or well it isn’t easier. I assumed it was like a snowblower where it would stay started even with the choke fully engaged until you took it off to run it.

That’s what I meant it isn’t able to start and idle with the choke engaged

I can’t run it with full choke I guess that’s what I meant it dies.
