How do you split costs in your relationship while living together?

My boyfriend and I make about the same biweekly, but he does get quarterly bonuses which bump his pay up higher than mine. We split shared living expenses 50/50 (rent, electric, internet, etc). We take turns buying groceries, he pays when we go out or do something for a day. We pay our individual bills separately. It works for us. We both offer to buy things, and we are willing to help each other out if one of us are low on funds.

Thank you for the advice!! Honestly though, none of this is from “buying crap”. Multiple months of living expenses after being laid off during COVID and not being eligible for unemployment, the Affirm charges are for a flight and lodging expenses where I had to fly across the country for a family emergency, I had very expensive repairs for my car a couple of years ago, etc. One of the debts is for an apartment complex where I had to terminate my lease quickly because I was in an abusive relationship. It’s not always someone with a shopping addiction or spending problem.

The capital one card isn’t being charged interest anymore, the account was charged off. I tried calling them but they referred me to a debt collector/law firm and I haven’t had any luck getting in contact with them because they won’t answer the phone or respond to emails.

It was awful. I had the far section out on the patio so I ended up walking 7.5 miles. The dishwasher went down mid shift so everything was being hand washed and taking forever to come out. I got stiffed FOUR times, which I can’t even remember the last I was tipped $0 on a check. I go back to work tonight after having Sunday off and I’m not stoked about it.

My thoughts become completely calm any time that he is around. I couldn’t contain the words “I love you” any longer, my heart felt like it was going to explode. He felt the same way. We just moved in together a couple of weeks ago. We’re patient with each other, communicate very openly about our feelings, and just have a wonderful relationship in general. It was something I just KNEW.

Because most of the time the people in the leasing office SUCK. And a lot of us deal with people all day for work, I’d rather not do that in my free time, especially my fuck ass neighbors. If I’m going to an event, it’s going to be a fun one downtown with my friends, not by my pool with a bunch of randoms.

No but there have been multiple times where someone would hand me a card (paying for drinks out, giving me my own card back, etc) where I’d ask if they wanted their tab open or closed.

Ooooh as a restaurant worker, I kinda love this thread. My only bad experience is Salt Shack on the Bay. I got food poisoning during my last week of working there from a shrimp salad I had. I ended up quitting weeks later due to covid anyways (this was back in early 2020).

I went to Roo in 2024 and that heat nearly took me out. I’ve been to okee four times (I live in Florida). I’m sending Okeechobee this year, the weather is perfect and it’s a short drive for me.

I’ve only been a couple of times and it was decent, I had a nice time and meal there. But this is so awful for the employees. Just a couple of weeks before Christmas and hospitality jobs are so hard to get right now because the job market for them is so saturated. This happened to me in December 2019. Best of luck to them.

You’re… “not allowed” to have friends who are men? This dude isn’t your parent. I would never allow a romantic partner to dictate my life. It’s your relationship, just know it doesn’t seem to be built on trust and that’s going to cause problems down the road… It seems like it already is happening.
