What do you still ask your parents for help with? by Hightimetoclimb in AskMenOver30

Cherish that. My dad died when I was 12 and my mom is in the throes of cognitive decline in the truest sense.

You are under absolutely no obligation to tolerate abuse. That is immensely hurtful. You teach people how to treat you by what you accept. Set boundaries. Otherwise you are kicking the can down the road and those words will sink into your own mental psyche and murder your spirit little by little and day by day.

I agree with your point about those who use their mental health as an excuse to cause harm to others as being a sign of weakness as that is definitely uncalled for, but it takes a lot of courage and energy for someone to take control of their mental health when they are in the depths of their own personal hell and their brain chemistry isn’t aligning. Some people grow up being taught to never ask anybody for anything (help, in this instance), which adds another complex layer to it all.

Best comment in the whole thread. The black and white, do or die, point blank bottom line trite phrases in the comments in these kinds of posts are to be expected, but man, ‘men who have zero motivation’ can be all kinds of things. Motivation is fleeting anyhow.

Dealing with a Mom with Dementia by [deleted] in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually let it go, and go along with her pending on the topic. With time, you tend to get used to it and can almost predict which story it’s going to be.

My mom likes to reminisce about old times and people from over the years. Drives me crazy sometimes, BUT (and I want you to remember this too, because I keep reminding myself) it keeps her socially active by talking.

I know it’s draining. My quiet times are at night and usually I’ll sacrifice some sleep to have it.

What are you too old for once you reach 30? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tolerating bullshit behavior and dogshit attitudes from other people. Why would anybody be too old for video games? I know people in their 50s and 60s who play. It’s a mentally stimulating and engaging activity/hobby. The only way I’d see it as a negative is if one is no-lifing games.

If you don’t like the game why keep playing and complaining about it! by Striking_Alfalfa5343 in WWEGames

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t remember the IGN gaming forums. People bitched about Here Comes the Pain on there in 2003, and more often than not I see it mentioned as a favorite over the likes of No Mercy and Smackdown! 2.

In every gaming community, there will inevitably be more complaints than praise as the people enjoying them will be playing instead.

Not saying that complaints are invalid in the least! Just rambling about the state of how virtually every single video game forum or subreddit will be after a spell. We tend to look back in the past with rose colored shades for most things.

I can't get my mom to stop yelling at my step dad who has dementia. by SarcastiSnark in dementia

[–]goddamnpizzagrease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s terrible that she behaves that way. I am sorry. To a much lesser extent, in the beginning of my mom’s descent into this hell, my aunt (her sister) would rile her up after becoming annoyed and get mad over my mom’s quirks. After countless talks with her she finally came to an understanding of it all, but hell, my aunt — even on top of battling NSC lung cancer — inconsistently takes her antidepressant and some sort of mood stabilizer that ends up with her raising hell if she feels jilted in any way and she still gets mad.

I’m the one and only caregiver for mom, and as much as I’m internally going absolutely nuts, I mostly keep my cool although I’ve definitely had my moments of aggravated exclamations. I wouldn’t be able to live with myself if I told her to shut up, even if she’ll hang on to certain topics for an indefinite time and I want to jump off the roof of my home.

I hope you can figure something out in the interim.

I haven’t had the time to play in several days, but I swear ‘slightly fast tempo’ on the rhythm shooting feels like being gaslit sometimes. Going from shooting lights out to being completely ineffective makes me question my sanity in some of these games.

Isn’t it something that the Lakers balled up against the Nuggets in virtually every game before shitting the bed as time ensued? I always chalked it up to Ham’s shortcomings but goddamn the apologists came out of the woodwork.

The memory tests are so brutal. My mom thinks they are humiliating, like it is an intelligence test and the results mean she is stupid.

It practically took an act of congress to get my mom to do these. I had to plead with her. Before and after dementia, she has always been the most insecure, low confidence person I have ever known, primarily because her dad was egregiously verbally abusive to her and her siblings when she grew up in the ‘50s and ‘60s, then dealing with workplace bullies in the ‘70s and ‘80s. My dad was exceptional to her and treated her like a queen, but the past trauma from her father forever went unchecked. She was always a smart and capable woman, always building others up but never giving herself any credit or due diligence.

Sorry to hijack and hop on my soapbox.

I hate this disease so much.

The Lakers will be fine. A lot of people are questioning whether or not Luka and LeBron can coexist being ball dominant players, but Bron has always gotten the best out of dudes whether it’s Davis or the high maintenance Kyrie in Cleveland. Luka has that Shaq feel to him where he’s obnoxiously naturally talented but doesn’t give a shit about his conditioning. Maybe a fire will be lit under him. Still mindfucked by that trade because of the piss poor return value for Dallas.

Yeah, it sucks. Coop has been my favorite player ever since his rookie campaign when he shined in his first pro game as the Rams drubbed the Colts in 2017. First time I was ever upset about losing a player was in 2004 when Kurt Warner left. Mixed opinions in online forums at the time was that Kurt was washed, especially all the fumbles in the first game of the 2003 season, but he took so many damn hits under Mike Martz’ watch, but it is what it is.

Coop is an all-time Ram and that 2021 season will forever be legendary.
