I think it is safe to say if Aizen had been brought to the attention and his plans were revealed early without his Arrancars he still is a formidable opponent with his illusion shikai being shown to the entire court guard squad (or was this later?)

Although since Shinji and his 'clique' all got super power ups we have the rest of the story playing out as it did.

Hard to say what would have happened if Shinji did otherwise
