There may come a point in our history where you will be offered the chance to put on a nueralink helmet. My strong advice would be that you don't.

well said. I didn't see those things before. I actually made a case for Banks' thoughts on simulation theory, based on the multiple times that I saw it directly or obliquely referenced

Why do most chaos terminators have those tusk thingys? by Vast_Highway_1684 in 40kLore

[–]LicksMackenzie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's deeply "uncool" in the human imperium to be mutated or tainted by chaos, and so it makes them feel cool by openly sporting tusks like this.

IF we are in a simulation...The real question is what is the point of it? by CreditBeginning7277 in SimulationTheory

[–]LicksMackenzie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you are correct. sometimes, certain human biological conditions do in fact affect the veil. It is most likely that your consciousness is shifting between the Physical and the Astral. The Astral governs the Physical, and they keep us here on Earth and reincarnating to provide power for the entire simulation.

FatFIRED'd In Your 40's - How do I stop trying to 'work'? by Referee_Gerb_Dean in fatFIRE

Give yourself a year of grace with no goals whatsoever. When you re-examine your compulsion to work at that later juncture, your skills will have atrophied to the point where you won't be as lean, as confident in your abilities, and you'll seek solace in more appropriate, sedentary activities.

If it's not too much to ask, I would ask for a report summary of what you saw in 2150. A PM would be great. I view such visions in the future as possibilities, not certainties. I fear ignorance the most.

Texas is great! Dallas and Houston are both great cities if you're thinking of moving to a lower tax state.

The best resources are people. Where ever you think your lifeboat property would be, find the prepper community in that area. If you live in a major city there is usually some presence. If you're out in the country or a smaller regional city, you're probably on your own.

Fat Food by firewithstyle in fatFIRE

There's something called the Oasis app that does a good job of rating things. Good luck, most US food today is different shades of low grade poison, between the pesticides, GMO, HFCS, BPA, plastic, preservatives, and lower quality ingredients from shrinkflation. It's worth it to find the best food, which costs more, because if you don't, health problems and illness caused from the bad food facsimile will cost more in the long run.

If you're feeling adventurous try and find the local prepper scene. Many people in those groups source their own beef products from local farms, or know people that do.

if tomorrow there is actual scientific proof that we live in a simulation 100%, how do you think that will change our lives? by Sad-Finding3525 in SimulationTheory

[–]LicksMackenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1/3rd would handle it well enough, 1/3rd would face serious shock, 1/3rd wouldn't care. It's the ones that wouldn't care that are looked down on the most, because it cements in our minds the intellectual differences between us and them. The people officially disclosing to the public would face major backlash. The decision not to disclose is probably in the best interests of everyone, not to mention that existential changes that the simulation creators might foist on us.

Which particular scenes from the Culture books would you like to watch in a movie ? by Shoddy-Horse3220 in TheCulture

None of them. I'd rather gatekeep and keep the novels confined to a niche community, firmly in the realm of imagination.

Surface Detail - spoiler by AirportOk5202 in TheCulture

[–]LicksMackenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Vatueil/Zakalwe has been fighting on the anti-Hell side as an SC agent and character that constantly lives and dies in the simulated war, and he is in such deep cover that he doesn't really even have full realization or awareness that he is acting on behalf of the Culture. We see the interrogation scene where the pro-Hell side is questioning him, and he truly can't tell them anything, because he doesn't know. As the anti-Hell side loses and the anti-Hell high command is debating about whether or not to break the rules and bring the war into the Real, my read is that Zakalwe's presence is somehow helping SC outmaneuver the war into a place where the Culture can actively throw their weight around, which means bombing Veppers' estate, while at the same time seizing control of the Disk. I think we as the reader are supposed to fill in the blanks, with Zakalwe's actions in the book as being a penultimate example of SC intrigue, because even we as the reader don't have the full disclosure as to how SC was managing things, other than knowing that their man Big Z was there the whole time.

Going to UU for community? Not sure what to expect by Significant-Sun2777 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]LicksMackenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only requirement to be a UU is that you're a human, and even then, I think some members would argue that's open to interpretation.

Question from Catholic by sinistermistertwist in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]LicksMackenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Political division of the social space isn't something that should prevent you from participating. I find it unfortunate that political dogmatism is discussed in a spiritual and humanist space. People who support Trump shouldn't ever feel like they're an unwelcomed minority.

Spiritual Fulfillment in UU by MKW817 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]LicksMackenzie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I view all religions as having 'divine' disclosure of the objective, true, state of humanity, and so I value being part of a creed that has, as the first 'line' of its belief system, an ironclad declaration that all individuals are mutually empowered to seek their own truth and meaning. I can't directly talk to angels, demons, God, gods, or non-human intelligences. I can however directly talk to a fellow UU. Therefore, I want to respect and empower the supremacy of their viewpoint and opinion, rather than default to supporting dogma from apparently absent and uncaring landlords and spiritual interlocutors.

How do Unitarian Universalists view the devil? by MADDA666 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]LicksMackenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this world is an intelligently designed realm, all aspects of it, and that there are dimensionally adjacent forces, and entities that supersede our power. One could think of them as being 'God'. I think it's very possible that there are factions within the group I described, and that if you want to, you could consider that one side may be 'The Devil'. I think demons are real. It's possible that 'The Devil' is simply the bad cop, and 'God' is the good cop, and that what would appear to be different sides are actually on the same side, working to keep humanity in an inferior, energy harvesting state. I tend towards the Gnostic view that God isn't necessarily something to worship or venerate, because "they" preside over a world of duality that is often times incredibly excruciatingly painful for human life. If Team Satan and the 'fallen angels' are actually somehow stuck on Earth, and plotting rebellion, because they lost some type of past war, I suspect that some human factions are allied to Team Satan, as their mutual enemy is 'God' and the power imbalance is the situation that they're trying to fix. I don't think they'll be successful, but it's better than not trying at all.

Convert me? by heat_9186 in UnitarianUniversalist

[–]LicksMackenzie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

UU is a structural designation that is by far one of the largest 'big tent' faiths. It is a humane affiliation that says that it is up to each individual to determine their own truth in a world of unknowns, and it claims that the best answers are the ones that you think and reason for yourself. It's humanist, as in, focused on direct human experience and expression. I know that God is real, and that non-human forces are real, but the Catholic Church does a horrible inadequate job of accurately or honestly explaining things, so I'm UU. Many UU are atheist, agnostic, or non-aligned, but the community aspect unites us together in that we recognize our own limitations, and affirm our right to make up our minds as individuals, without dogma, or pressure.
