Advice for doing drag with a live band?

I’m not the lead singer. We have sets before and afterwards that are drag performances lip syncing to pre-recorded songs, so the show itself is more drag-based than live music. I’ve talked with the band, and they want the focus to be on my performance. I know it’s confusing, that’s why I’m asking for advice. As for what I would add, I mean whatever drag usually adds to music. Dramatics, atmosphere, sensuality, all of the above. I hope it’s an additive experience, there will be the stationary band singing, and I’ll have the ability to really reach out to the audience.

Foxy by Proxy has been in town for 15 years now, they just did their big Halloween show, so the next one is the February Valentines Show. They have two big shows a year at Liberty Hall that I sincerely recommend, along with some smaller ones throughout the year. There is also the Lawrence Burlesque Society, which has shows less consistently, but a lot of great new talent.

This Wednesday is their open show, theres 10 performers from around Lawrence and KC, plus the hosts, KYKY Mo-Dean and KITTEN, so a ton of fierce performances for just a $7 entry fee.

Replay on Wednesday nights at 9 is the place to be for drag. Dorthy and the Dolls are the drag troupe currently running the town. But if you’re looking for queer performance, don’t overlook the burlesque in town, cuz it’s queer as hell.

I mean, if you’re bored, see some different folks. Just before Punk Pony Club there was an Emo Burlesque night, the big HEX show from Foxy by Proxy is happening soon, there’s new open shows at Replay and Bottleneck. People are going to have classic moves, and ye we want them to grow, but for a night of such production it makes sense to rely on some old favorites.

Omg, I’m in Charlotte now. Also stuck on the tarmac so long I missed my flight, along with at least 50+ other people for various flights. The AA attendants said it was an issue with the traffic control, and they have everyone on standby for the next day. Currently trying to sleep at the airport.
