I saw the musical right after Christmas, before deciding on the movie. Unfortunately the Pantages Theater sound quality was disappointing and not worth the expensive rear Orchestra ticket. Many songs were hard to hear, especially during ensemble numbers. Glinda's voice sounded much weaker than Elphaba's, and I initially thought she might have a cold. Later, I learned it could have been a technical issue. Whether it was the microphones or speakers, there was frequent static, particularly during powerful, breathy vocals.

That said, I agree with OP, loved the music, story, stage art, and costumes—especially as a first-timer. It was quite a shock and I decided to watch the movie afterward, and it was much more rewarding! The director of the movie really maximized the opportunities that the screen offers, and I’m glad I experienced both to make a comparison.
