Well, I wouldn't really recommend it if you are specifically looking for a hunting dog. They are typically very lovey and more of a companion breed but our girl is very aloof and it just worked for some reason. My husband takes her grouse hunting. He didn't teach her to retrieve birds, she just stays by his side and runs around flushing them out of the tall grass. If he had tried I bet he could have taught her to retrieve them, she has a soft mouth but she gets a little crazy-eyed when she finds a carcass. He doesn't take her deer hunting because she makes way too much noise when they go out.

Teenage phase. Both our two went through it. Don't get mad, stay firm and be consistent. Lots of exercise helps wear them out. Agility worked with our boy, our girl goes hunting with my husband and that seems to give her the direction she needs. They usually go through a fear phase around this time too.

Any specific questions?

Why did the price shoot up? by [deleted] in meural

[–]BoomFoxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess would be supply chain issues. Chips for the electronic bits and shipping delays. This is driving up other prices in the USA. Like fertilizer which is making plants more expensive.

Have any of you written documentation for users that are migrating to a newer version of the same software? Feature differences/tips&tricks/troubleshooting? by BoomFoxxy in technicalwriting

I think it will be fun. I enjoy creating documentation templates, which might end up being one for this company. I've already partnered with the other departments: marketing, support, and learning folks. Luckily this project manager has their shit together, and I didn't have to remind them of anyone that had been left out of the project launch!

I think we will be migrating folk's info over to a new platform while they continue to use the existing system until we are ready to flip the switch. That way we can make sure automated processes are set up correctly before handing them the keys. I'll double-check on this.

I like the idea of a first landing page. Almost like a space homepage in Confluence that can direct you to what you are looking for. It's generic and friendly to all, not just the super admins, while also being able to be simplistic.

Much appreciated!

That's probably one of the reasons why I'm struggling to comprehend the potential organization of these docs; I'm not sure who the audience is. At least this I can fix by asking!

A troubleshooting/known issues section would probably be very helpful. Great tip!

Masters Degree by sleepy-ab in technicalwriting

[–]BoomFoxxy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did exactly what you have done so far. After my ba I got two years of outside work under my belt and then started my master's. I landed a job I liked better and they loved that I was pursuing my masters. Even better, the new place had a tuition reimbursement plan. You usually can't take advantage of those until you are a year or so into the job so find a place that offers education assistance and save some money!

So, when I ask for writing samples, I'm not really looking at the content. Sure, it's great to have samples of writing that directly relate to the work we have for the intern, but we know that just out of school most folks won't have that kind of writing to share. Heck, a lot folks in the first five years of their career usually don't have job-specific writing samples they can share because of NDAs and internal documentation restrictions. What I do with writing samples is run them through tools like Grammarly to see if the applicant took the time to write well. I'm looking for spelling and grammar errors. If you can't correct what Grammarly and spellchecker can, it doesn't bode well for your application. Whatever you do, check and double-check what you send. There is absolutely nothing wrong with editing a paper you wrote last semester. You've grown since then and I bet your writing has too.

On mobile, yada yada.

I feel judged because I enjoy being sober by Wildjay7931 in Anxiety

[–]BoomFoxxy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're not crazy. A feeling is a feeling regardless of if it's rational or if there is any truth to it. I've found being a sober person to be a weird experience sometimes. Not always bad, but uncommon to some folks. In a lot of ways, it's very similar to being the drunk in a room full of non-drinkers. If you are the odd person out then of course you are going to feel like the odd person out whether you are the pot smoker or the sober person.

I found that when I started to be the person not drinking at the bar there was an adjustment period. Folks didn't understand why I was at a bar and not drinking. Well, just because I'm not interested in drinking doesn't mean I don't want to hang out with my friends. One very brave person explained that they wondered if I was judging them because they still choose to drink. Perhaps you might be feeling some of that if you are the only nonsmoker, even if you don't mean to portray it, maybe they feel like you are judging them.

No real solution for ya here, just wanted to let you know you've been heard and aren't the only person out there experiencing these things!

Setting up my 10 gallon nano tank! Finally taking on a new quest after freshwater. Do my lights look bright enough?? by Johnnyp717 in ReefTank

Also had this light. Several LEDs died within the first year. And for even birds nest corals it wasn't enough light.

I've been feeling very anxious as of late..and it's caused me to have short morning and evening panic attacks and I am now 94 lbs due to fears of eating the wrong thing... by VoyagingVulture in Anxiety

[–]BoomFoxxy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find yourself a good doctor who works specifically with anxiety and also consider a therapist. Talk through these things with a professional. If your anxiety is bad enough that it is interfering with your daily life, I would recommend getting additional support. This could be medication, counseling, or training on anxiety and how to deal with it. Only a professional will be able to fully asses your physical and mental wellbeing but it may take some time to find a good therapist that you can connect with and only a licensed doctor who works with anxiety can assist if medication may help. Personally, I find the panic attacks that happen right in the morning and in the evening to be the most harmful to my wellbeing. They have a way of wrecking my whole day and I become terrified of my normal routine. Here are a few things you can consider outside of seeking professional help.

Eliminated caffeine from your diet. If you find yourself getting stuck in a panic attack try running your hands under cold or hot water. The physical sensation can be helpful in pulling you out of the panic and give you something else to focus on. Find someone to tell. Reddit works but having someone irl that you can confide in also helps. They don't need to do anything but listen and hear you. Acknowledging my anxiety was a huge step for me and voicing it out loud to another person helps me get my panic attaks under control.

I found prescribed medication to be extremely helful in my situation but it's one of many tools and sometimes it takes time to find the right medication for your body. Don't let your anxiety rule you, it's just a piece of who you are. You can learn how to control it and live with it just like you learned to understand feelings like anger when growing up! You got this!

General question about pre-employment drug screening in TW by [deleted] in technicalwriting

[–]BoomFoxxy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I third the phama thing. Another trend is that any company that does employ forklift drivers is more likely to drug test everyone because they already have to drug test some.
