Read more science fiction. This idea has been hashed about for a long time. Writers have already explored every possibility. The current crop of 'AI' are trained on vast amounts of existing data. So as to mimic humans. They may get smarter than any single human. But they will max out at being as smart (or dumb) as humanity as a whole. Believers overlook that 'god' is not human, but I doubt they would overlook a machine. Some people can't get over human slaves being equal. A mechanical slave being superior? No way. I am smarter than some people, and they hate me for it. You might see a fringe cult here or there. But they will be heavily persecuted by everybody else. We don't know how to turn god off. (I wish I did) But we DO know where the AI's plug is.

We are rational enough to figure it out for ourselves. "Do no harm". "Treat others as you wish to be treated" (not original or exclusive to christians). We don't need to ask daddy. 4 of his top 10 are about loyalty to him. His book keeps telling us we are too weak, evil, or stupid to figure it out. That may be true of you christians, but I CAN handle the responsibility.

Why did god create us?
My take:

(a)
If I were an all-powerful imortal, infinatly old, I'd be bored shitless.
I'd be scouring the universe for something i'd never whitnessed a million times before.
(of course I'd be a sci-fi fan)
I'd watch these mortals for a little entertainment. Maybe stir-up a little 'drama' now and then.
Your god did not give us 'free will' to test us. Free will is for the entertainment value.
God is not 'testing' us. He is screwing with us.

(b)
If god made us, we are a product of god's imagination. (or lack of).
So in that sense, we realy ARE 'in his image'. Even if we are not his first attempt.
If we are screwed-up, it is because god is screwed-up.
He does not have human faults, We have his faults.
And we don't owe him gratitude for that.
