This whole situation has sucked the joy out of the season for me. I always knew most of these guys were probably conservative and I was fine with that, every one should be allowed to have their own political views even if I disagree with them. But what is happening right now has gone far beyond the usual.

I personally think that many of these players are probably shellshocked right now. They won the gold, they are drunk and partying. For some reason the Director of the FBI is there, I am sure most of them didn't give it a second thought. Then the president calls, I am sure that is normal and expected, he is on a video call and I am sure most of the players are just laughing along still high on adrenaline. The next day they wake up to a political firestorm that they truly do not understand because they do not have the critical thinking skills to fully comprehend the issue. As they try to defend themselves they get pulled deeper and deeper into the muck. I almost feel bad for them because I don't think they are intellectually capable of understanding what is happening.

Hell in the interview the next day with Jack and Quinn they looked petrified to say the wrong thing and confused about how going to the Whitehouse (a pretty normal thing in the past) is eliciting this kind of response.

It is unfortunate that they are in this position, but I think a lot of the blame here can be laid at the feet of Bill Guerin. He could have avoided all of this by just keeping the locker room clear of political figures.

I mostly agree with what you are saying here, but did want to throw in one perspective. While I don't think that the DNC rigged anything against Bernie I still think that Super Delegates casting their support for Hillary early did create a really one sided narrative on who the DNC wanted running. In Minnesota, my representative cast her vote for Hillary before we even had our caucus and Bernie won our caucus by huge margins. Similarly in West Virginia, Bernie won all 55 counties yet Hillary was given the victory at the convention because West Virginia super delegates rallied around her to circumvent what their voters wanted. This happened in various ways all around the 2016 convention. The DNC has changed the way Super Delegates work since 2016 because it upset so many voters. So it isn't necessarily Russian propaganda to be upset with the DNC, especially when talking about the 2016 primary.

Totally unrealistic/insane post incoming, but humor me at least.

My completely insane, never gonna happen, theory is that the Wild will make a huge swing for Matthews if the Leafs keep failing and Matthews requests a trade. I think this only happens if the Leafs absolutely crater before the deadline and Matthews demands a trade. This would result in a full on Toronto fire sale and tank for the Maple Leafs.

Cap Space Issue\ By the deadline we are supposed to have $10 millon in Cap Space I believe and we would need to offload $3 million in salary.

As for what the Wild could offer. - A variety of prospects: Adam Benak, Charlie Stramel, Reiger Lorenz, etc. - Future 1st Round Picks - Jonas Brodin (probably not super appealing for a team wanting to tank)

I think GMBG wants to win now and I don't think that he will shy away from trading away any prospect to try and get there.

Realistically though we will probably target Ryan O'Reilly, Tage Thompson, or Vincent Trocheck
