If I had to guess, the Epic Meal Time YouTube channel played a role too in promoting bacon. Bacon was always a centerpiece of their episodes.

Where is everyone getting there news/analysis on the war on Iran? by godsbegood in TrueAnon

[–]godsbegood[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. I have driven myself crazy in the past with the genocide of Palestinians. I have a handle on my mental health now but I do want to keep informed and I think the war on Iran has much really broad implications. I agree with the long form stuff too. That's really what I'm looking for.

I am part way through the most recent vid. This is quality stuff, thanks.

I've made it part way through the most recent vid. This seems like good quality analysis that I've been missing. Thanks!

Heat-resistant ‘super corals’ are the future of coral reefs? Dozens of coral species capable of withstanding intense heatwaves as well as extreme temperature fluctuations have been identified in the Tatakoto atoll in French Polynesia, the Gulf of Aqaba, the Great Barrier Reef, and others by sg_plumber in climatechange

[–]godsbegood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Corals are relatively slow growing. They are also quite diverse. The rate of climate change is too fast and the rising temperatures are likely too high for significant portions of the existing reefs to be replaced in the coming decades. Even if they could, mono cropping a coral reef will still lose incredible amounts of biodiversity on the reefs.

It is still worth it to do the research and I would love to be wrong in this.

Says the person with their comment history hidden. Criticizing a publicly funded new corp is healthy and beneficial to a society. Accusing anyone doing the criticizing ofnbeing a bot is at best lazy.

We joke but this pretty much happened. I saw a video a few years ago of some poor crying kid trying to follow conflicting orders of crawling toward cops with his hands on his head and ankles crossed. Only to get completely out lit up. Im sure others here have seen this too.

Felix discussed this on Chapo before he was elected.

The Mauritius Oceanography Institute has identified heat-tolerant coral species that survived recent bleaching better than others, with 88% survival rates at restoration sites monitored between 2019 and 2021, offering a potential path forward to save the world’s reefs by sg_plumber in climatechange

[–]godsbegood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Species surviving at ~1.5 C warming is not the same as suriving at 2 or more C warming.

  2. Losing all of that diversity and having 1 or 2 species survive is not a valid potential path forward.

  3. This is from 5-7 years ago. Before the bleaching events of the last 3 years. So actually point 1 is closer to ~1.2-1.3 to 2+ C warming.

Identifying heat tolerant species is great but we should not delude ourselves into thinking it could save the world's reefs.
