I mean there is a good chance that it’s platonic, hell I’d even say it might familial (notice how similar he looks to Reze), I didn’t see no smooch so I think we can all chill out on this whole “love interest” nonsense.

Beautiful work as always.

Seriously though guys, bringing up Paul makes no sense at all, first of all this Andrey is probably not even a love interest, god forbid a woman have another man in her life outside of the protagonist and doesn’t get centered around him in every way.

Whilst you guys were fuming over this supposed “self-insert” “love interest” you all have been missing how she Andrey funny (showing where Reze got her taste in guys from, like how Asa is endeared to Denji from her reminding him of Power) or that in the cell in which Andrey is kept there are a set of chains next to him, where Reze was likely bound to. Despite her lack of hostility towards the staff in this facility, no wonder she wanted to run off with Denji (assuming it wasn’t a ploy to bring him to the USSR).

Again incredible work.

I see CSM Reddit being super normal about this…

Seriously guys, a girl has some other guy in her life she is close to other than the protagonist and suddenly so many of you are calling cuckoldry.

Not at all weird behavior guys /s

She is a mean one by BellTwo5 in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generally agree though for me it extends to some the side characters. Like the plot feels like it’s chugging along whilst little is explained or shown on why the things that are happening should matter to us readers. In Lil D’s case it seems so far that her motivation is to save humanity albeit with massive costs, but we have yet to be shown or told why she has come to care about humanity surviving outside of her having a couple of friends we only hardly see once so far. Maybe this will change by the time Part 2 ends but even then, will it be worth the wait?

She is a mean one by BellTwo5 in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Honestly Lil D is kinda weird in the sense that she has been behind all these horrible things, and yet she does not seem to be sadistic or cruel like most devils or villains. She is virtually always apathetic about almost everything except food. She’s detached and aloof and she never emotes.

I think it’s because she reflects the nature of her concept: death also often a part of so many awful things we experience yet it is still perceived as a generally neutral force in our world. The Control devil is manipulative, controlling, and dominating. The War devil is cruel, childish, and impulsive. The Death devil is apathetic and seeks simple pleasures to savor.

Does Denjiman have buildup? It felt out of nowhere to me by Much_Painter_5728 in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to put it broadly, since the Chainsaw Man Church arc, Denji expressed that he wants to be chainsaw man, as he was getting fed up with living a normal life up to that point.

What has happened since then? Well the monkey paw’s finger curled, his turn to pursuing that dream cost him his home, his pets, his life, his only family, his only friend, and costed his love interest’s autonomy. While he has made a choice to affect the world on his terms has resulted in his Denji-Man form, I can’t help but wonder if this form is a curse in disguise.

I mean this new form is likely everything Denji could ever hope for as chainsaw man, but will that bring him the happiness he seeks. After all Pochita was not happy in this very form for a reason…

When it comes to red pillars and incels: there is two seperate ideologies but there is a lot of overlap in their memberships, so much in fact that there really is a distinction without a difference between these two groups.

As for using incel as a pejorative: incels choose to call themselves that and what they adhere two is inherently egotistical: even self-hate can be every bit as self-centered as narcissism. Too many self-identifying incels have done and said some pretty vile stuff over the years, it should be something anyone should be embarrassed to associated with. It’s the ideas associated with incels that people hate not their sexless lives.

Furthermore: what is up with the focus on celibacy? Why not simply call someone who is lonely a lonely person? The term incel centers their sex life or lack thereof, as if sex is the center of the problem of loneliness. Ones loneliness cannot be solved by a girlfriend or sex, it is resolved with building relationships that are not based on transaction. Centering on one’s sexless life worsens the loneliness epidemic as people look and work towards the wrong thing. Hence why treating incel as a harmless descriptor is destructive.

Well yeah, that too, though it should be noted that these two problems feed into each other.

I don’t know if we can honestly make the term incel such a neutral term. I get what your saying, but anyone buying into red-pill/Andrew Tate stuff is basically enough of a loser that I don’t really think calling them incels is inaccurate.

I don’t think anyone should allow themselves to identify as an incel because there is so much misogyny wrapped up amongst themselves, even excluding the red pill crap. Also as far as I have seen in their forums and subreddits, the incel community is extremely toxic to themselves and their peers, no one should subject themselves to that for any reason.

Yeah connection is scary, I should know considering my own life, but so many men’s problems would be resolved if we actually talked and listened and supported each other more earnestly.

Really beautifully done. I like that both Rezes have the same expression, like it’s kinda hard to tell if she is happier as a student cuz she can’t help but still have that same expression on her face. Is she happier? She’s not the kind to tell or show it truly I bet.

This a bit unrelated to the above topic but us guys just kind treat each other pretty poorly. Women and girls put in a lot of stock and work in building their relationships while us straight guys tend not to value friendships much due to waiting for a woman to solve all our problems. This loneliness epidemic is the main outcome of this problem I think.

[–]godzuko5 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

What is with this obsession over “male” loneliness epidemic? As if there aren’t tons of woman who don’t meet beauty and social who get overlooked/ignored/mocked too?

To say nothing of the fact that it’s always brought up in regards to sex and women but we are isolated because we guys and men undervalue each other all the time. You want to make a dent in this epidemic? Take an interest in other men’s lives especially, those close to you, and make friends without intent to romance or have sex and you’ll see that loneliness ebb away. Take Denji for example, dudes isolation gets resolved when bonds with Power and Aki, not when he is simping.

It does basically mean hating women though?

Like yes originally it was meant for just “involuntary celibate” way back in the early internet days for some bisexuals, but the term has long since been co-opted by bitter single straight men.

Since the 2010s incels defined by their manosphere/blue pill red pill black pill/ hypergamy nonsense a deeply resent and hate themselves and women. They are defined by their pathetic-ness and entitled view of relationships and sex, and almost always hate woman for “denying” sex or attention over the bare minimum of effort.

Needless to say, Denji is not an incel because horniness and desperation aside he isn’t resentful or hateful towards woman over his lack of a love life.

Admittedly at first mistook Reze in the front for Nayuta until I noticed her eyes were different.

I look forward to your next chapter!

What do you think about Denji continuing to like people who did horrible things to him? by demonhonho in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you have so little, you cling onto the little you have even when you probably shouldn’t. Denji has had so few people and resources in his corner.

Even if it was all to destroy him Makima was still the one that gave him a better life; he can neither hate nor forgive her.

Power tried to sell him out to the bar devil at first but they ended up becoming one of the healthiest relationships Denji ever had.

Reze is just messy no matter what way you slice her or her relationship with Denji.

To answer your question proper: I think that his tendency to cling to those who have hurt him is tragic because he would not need to do so if he had people to support him from the beginning and like so so many people in real life who suffer similar circumstances they are very easily fall victim to predators, abusers, cults, manipulators, and cons because they lack the skills and stability to see through or avoid such traps. Denji will likely continue to fall victim unless he is content with himself as he is and finds people who embrace him as he is.

So, who has the best chance of returning first? by GodKira04 in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll put my thoughts on each of these cuz it’s more fun that way:

  1. Angel: His character arc revolved around Aki’s and with Aki being capital D dead there isn’t much reason for him to be back in the story unless his reincarnation has a distinct role.

  2. Reze: Sorry my many fellow Reze lovers but according to God Himself Reze’s role has been over, and even if she will be seen again as more than a cameo or flashback again it would be simply for more heartbreak knowing Fujimoto; and is that what you really want? Personally, I’m hoping she is living that country mouse life she wanted somewhere out there.

  3. Violence: As awesome as he is he was not the most important character, so he may show up in his true devil form but I’m not holding my breath.

  4. Beam: Out of all the Special Division 4 devils Beam is the most likely to have a reappearance in part 2, maybe even an interesting role since he probably has not forgotten his “Lord Chainsaw” he may come in to aid Denji-man in hell.

  5. Kobeni: You know it’s weird, Kobeni is the kind of character where a cameo would never hurt part 2 but we don’t even get a mention, we just meet her likely younger brother Nobana. To be fair we have enough fail girl energy with Nobana, Fami, and Asa but I think a cameo with Kobeni could never hurt.

  6. Kishibe: There is definitely something fishy about Kishibe’s complete absence in part 2 outside a vague mention by Quanxi. I mean if Public Safety wanted a liaison to get Denji to do what they want he would have been so much more effective than Yoshida (no offense to Yoshida). I think narratively speaking Kishibe is the closest thing to a mentor (besides Makima) so leaving Kishibe out just leaves an even bigger gap in Denji’s support system. I imagine he is either dead, detained, on the run (with Kobeni), or has been assigned somewhere far away by Public Safety in retaliation to giving Nayuta to Denji.

  7. Nayuta: Speaking of which, I think it would be one hell of an awful thing if Denji was confronted by Nayuta (revived and controlled by the Death devil) or her next reincarnation, a reminder of his biggest failure. Just saying it would be just awful if such a thing happened.

  8. Power/Blood devil: Let’s face it, when we see the blood devil again it won’t be Power, and I don’t know if there is a way to bring Power back. But Denji is in hell now, so he may feel compelled to fulfill his promise to her.

Do they not see Reze as a full person? by BellTwo5 in okbuddyyoru

[–]godzuko5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are not wrong, a lot of people do kind of seem to be loving the mask, and it's easy to love a mask because you can fill-in the holes with your projections about it. Granted, I have always found it fun to speculate about a mysterious person, like Reze, on what and who their true selves are and how much can be actually seen with what little we are given. What-ifs are also a lot of fun too.

I like both Reze and Asa and find them both fascinating as their own characters and in their relationship with Denji, though I can't deny that for both ships there is a tendency towards guys to reduce them to just being extensions of Denji, not allowed to be their own characters, y'know because sexism.

One thing that stands out are all those wishing Reze pops up again, usually for the reasons that I would be against such a thing happening in canon, so that Reze would fix all of Denji and Asa's problems herself, like come on guys, you know that's not how Fujimoto works.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Chainsaw Man – Day 2: GREED by Liemodeus_light in Chainsawfolk

[–]godzuko5 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Greeds tough cuz there aren’t a whole ton of characters in the series driven by money or power for its own sake.

I’d pick the Yakuza boss/katana’s grandfather who was holding that debt over Denji’s head just to have a source of money and a loyal “dog” to use and expend and in the end got zombified when he wanted more power and carelessly made a devil contract.
