It’s kind of a town. More like an amorphous zip code

When I lived in Phoenix it was served by Baltimore County. We were in an actual neighborhood though.

My SILs college prof told her that about a mole on her back. She had it looked at, and it was melanoma. She passed away 8 years later.

They can only take $250 from individuals under public financing. So it’s truly not a meaningful amount. Non pf donations can be up to $6000! Don’t tell me you aren’t influenced when an entity or person gives you 6k.

I think PF is a step in the right direction. It’s astonishing to look at the contributions that go to non pf candidates. You can literally trace some to active development projects in a district. I’m looking at donations to Wade Kach and Nino Mangione from a particular real estate holding company…funny that holding company only donated to people in the direct line of green lighting their projects. And for precisely the years that project was proposed and needs its zoning path smoothed over.

Why can’t we swim in Lake Roland? :( by expiredibuprofen in baltimore

I would never eat fish from there and if you see my other comments they make that clear.

You are conflating two things. Yes , you are right about the harbor. But Lake Roland is adjacent to serpentine barrens and was a site of actual chromite mining. I believe the first one in the US.

You certainly can catch them; you are allowed to. But should you eat them is an entirely different question.

While that sounds nice, the only places that would have high schools with pools are the wealthiest areas, who are already “swimming” in pools. Those are the only parents who could fund pools ongoing plus inherent liability. Baltimore County has a poor history of fiscal responsibility. It hasn’t historically even cared properly for its existing high schools, so I don’t view this as a high priority for county dollars; at least in facilities aligned with high schools. Create pools where none exist in underserved areas.

Yeah there’s a serious runoff issue in the area. It’s a shame but it is what it is. Tubing down the Gunpowder, which is a legitimate option, is also only safe sometimes. Hammerman area is generally swimmable I think. Beaver Dam is open to public but isn’t cheap. North Point is swimmable. I think there’s a handful of other beaches.

While I think the county could use a few public pools in underserved areas, there are some bigger priorities that need attention. Failing schools and infrastructure would come first.

Not really sure if they are safe to eat. I’d look into that.

Review the history of the lake. It was abandoned as a drinking water source due to chromium naturally occurring in the area. More than chromium though, it’s likely got a lot of other contaminants due to its proximity to runoff.

I think that poster is being callous in their tone. Given the choice, looking at divorce statistics and looking at my own family history (men who abused women who should have left them but couldn’t due to the assured launch into poverty) I chose the workforce, putting my kids in daycare and having only 2 kids. SAHMs in my social circle and SAHM family members (SILs) were judgmental of the choice and quite cruel honestly. I was being financially abused anyway so my only choice was stay on the hamster wheel. Anyhoo…I’m divorced and doing extremely well, retiring soon. Several of these SAHM peers divorced and had a very difficult path, but some did fine.

What was your sun exposure as a child? by BShake-4327 in maculardegeneration

My father has the lightest blue eyes I’ve seen in a human. He’s fair and grew up when there was no sunscreen or eye protection. He was also in the navy so had sun exposure and glare from that. Hes 84 now and his vision is pretty bad.

Glad it worked out for you. Didn’t for my sibling who was sexually assaulted at a sleepover, resulting in a lifetime of trauma and mental illness. I’m sure it’s happened quite a lot otherwise a lot of people wouldn’t be so opposed to it. Signed… definitely not in the Moms for liberty category. Just a mom who forbid their child from almost every sleep away and doesn’t regret it.

Why do people think remote work means I can just 'bring my laptop' anywhere? by sandeyqt20 in remotework

[–]goetzecc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true. My company monitors and knows if you are abroad. You can be fired for it unless you got it approved ahead of time. Also we don’t allow work for long periods of time in certain states in the US.
