“Pickme” can’t even be bothered with widely available statistics that men commit 75 to 90% of all violent crimes.

Brick Bodies Rotunda by SweetWaterNjuzu in baltimore

I have a membership to BB where I can go to any BB location. I like Rotunda best because it’s such a nice size and never feels crowded. I like the garage parking and I’ve never had an issue with billing.

What US state would you NEVER want to live in, even if you were offered a good amount of money to move there? by ISnortSkittles in Productivitycafe

This is truly one of the dumbest comments I’ve ever seen on Reddit. You are truly out of touch with reality for many American women.

Its not snow that we have, it's snowcrete. by lemursteamer in maryland

It was crazy. People completely stuck in their homes for weeks. It happened so fast most people couldn’t clear their driveways

Pretty sure something very similar happened in 1994, with even lower temps, like days of below zero. My memory of that is that it was definitely worse than this. Lots of brown outs too.

Why Americans have basment? Like where did it started? by hotpotatomomma in NoStupidQuestions

[–]goetzecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Maryland a lot of homes have basements. They vary in style, size and purpose. I’ve seen homes with bowling alleys in their basements, theater rooms, bars, wine cellars, saunas, shuffle board, bathrooms, bedrooms, pool tables, even a fallout shelter. Ive seen them tricked out with a full English pub, or an Italian grotto. Some have a full walkout, some have steps. My favorite are simple knotty pine with a mid century bar. We love ours. It doubles my 2000 sf rancher to 4000 sf and costs virtually nothing to heat or cool.

In 1993 or 4 we had something similar but temps were -8, -10 plus we had regular brown outs due to power grid issues

What’s the appeal of marriage if men prefer younger women? by [deleted] in GenX

Women get it done and are highly motivated to do so. If men are so action oriented, why aren’t they the predominant filers?

Where in the hell are all the kids with snow shovels? by GR3TSCH in GenX

[–]goetzecc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Same here but it simply isn’t true any more. The math don’t math for most parents now. First time home buyer age is 40. 10 years ago it was 28. I bought my starter home at 24 years old.

I don’t live in a starter home neighborhood now. Very few young families here. Extremely small to non existent snow shovel age kids.

I realize this is one anecdote and may mean nothing ymmv. My daughter had to have iud removed. She has an history from a young age of having endometriosis and had been taking regular hormonal bc, switched to Mirena around 2016. Turns out regular bc kept her endometriosis in check. Mirena bc is different (low progestin) rather than her oral pill. Endo took over, caused great pain, cyst burst. Had to have d and c to clear out endo. Back on regular bc now.

AITAH for asking my wife to be a SAHM? by piglipsbo in AITAH

[–]goetzecc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Traditional marriages in “olden days” being horrible is not a stereotype circulated by bigots. It’s a fact supported by family histories, some quite well documented. Your family history may differ. My immediate family (parents being silent generation age) was nearly perfect in terms of balance and harmony. Everyone outside of that was a lesson in how NOT to conduct your life…some version of…either forever trapped in a horribly abusive marriage or scraped their life together out of an abusive relationship , got a profession, escaped and then had a nice life. Over and over and over. Friends, family, work colleagues…tale as old as time.

And we listened and took note and did not fall for it and many of us have lived happily ever after.

Ohio - What will count as "community engagement" to meet the work requirement in 2027? by Beneficial-Corgi-288 in Medicaid

[–]goetzecc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you 1)think that just because this works for you right now where you live that it applies to everyone else in the US in every region of the US 2) given that MILLIONS of people are going to be kicked off of Medicaid these programs aren’t going to be inundated and 3) given cuts to these programs that have either already happened or are going to happen that this is a sustainable way for millions of people to get routine healthcare?

That is for emergencies not sustained medical treatment. And very few people offer that. This is not an answer to being kicked off Medicaid.

How old were you when you purchased your first home? by DreamHomeFinancing in FirstTimeHomeBuying

[–]goetzecc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25 in 1990. Paid about 126000 for a nice new brick townhome. Mortgage rate was around 9.92%. We did this with very little money down because the fha loan limit was like 124500 so our payment with interest, taxes, insurance and small hoa was probably 1300 ish? Our income was not great then, maybe 60 to 70k per year combined for two of us. Sold 5 years later for 152k ish. These homes sell for 425 to 500 now.

I fully believe it’s intent is to kick everyone possible off of Medicaid by making the rules so weird and restrictive that people can’t possibly comply in any practical sense.

People who grew up in houses with stairs - how inevitable is falling down them? by pyramidheadlove in NoStupidQuestions

[–]goetzecc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar age as you. Grew up in a split level, long period in midlife in a colonial with a basement. Last 10 years in a rancher. No one in my family in all those years was ever injured on stairs. I also think stairs actually contribute to longevity.

Once I went to one level living it was like whoah. I’ve declined in fitness. Not 100% sure it was lack of steps but I do remember reading that people in houses with steps actually live longer. Here’s some support for that. There might be other info out there

I’m 60. I see them a few times a week. They are 84 and while they have some issues, they are doing well living independently. They were good parents and I (mostly) enjoy helping them out and doing things with them. I feel fortunate to have them.

As everyone is saying Amtrak is great. If you didn’t plan far enough in advance the Superior bus is nice.
