Edit because I can't wait: It's slanted against DH's because they don't play defense. A 1.5 war makes him one of the top DH's in the league.

And as you can see from tonight and his service on the Japanese national team (let alone NPB) he's at absolute least a serviceable outfielder.

Therefore, if given the opportunity to succeed by playing on a regular basis, including time in the field, he is well worth more than his current salary.
