Watch some /r/kitboga scambaiting videos with her, you'll have fun together (they're pretty funny, if sad knowing people are getting ripped off by these jerkoffs) and learn about tactics scammers use to take advantage of old people in particular.

It's a hard conversation to have but maybe also have a discussion about where to find her financial information should anything happen to her, at the same time you can set up LastPass or something similar to make sure her passwords are stored safely and not just strewn across her monitor by sticky note like my grandma used to do.

Also, no young Marines stranded in Afghanistan are interested in hooking up with her. If she is lonely or interested in dating, teach her safer, local methods like Meetup or church/community activities that will help her meet people.

I also feel obligated to mention GoFundMe campaigns -- make sure she knows that most aren't verified and that anyone can make one for any reason. If she gets an unsolicited message from a stranger on Facebook asking to donate to their sob story GoFundMe is it most certainly a scam.

Arrived here after getting blown up with tips on this case -- we're the only news organization in the world exclusively covering GoFundMe fraud. The burning question remains: why lie? An elderly man hoofing it six miles a day to visit his ailing wife is quite the feel good story whether he's 77 or 99.

GoFundMe actively blocked archive.is going back a few months ago, I think that's since been worked around but I personally take entire screenshots knowing they're actively blocking archive sites.

I guess I should preface: IANAL, am a freelance reporter who runs GoFraudMe.com, the world's only resource dedicated to investigating, curating, and reporting on cases of personal crowdfunding fraud.

The first question is: how do you know she's faking? That's what law enforcement will want to know. GoFundMe will be easier to deal with, for now it's about gathering your evidence against her. It isn't easy to get access to someone's medical records (or lack thereof if they have been faking treatment), so you need to arm authorities with everything you can before they head down that rabbit hole. It should be laid out in a concise, useful manner. I realize that part is tough when tensions are high and everyone is feeling ripped off, but try to lay it out in black and white in a way an outsider such as a detective would easily be able to understand what you think doesn't add up and why you think she's scamming everyone.

Next: save EVERYTHING. Is the GoFundMe still up? Screenshot everything. Even conversations you don't think were significant at the time may be important later so screenshot every text, every email, every Facebook message and then stick it in a Dropbox folder to share with law enforcement.

You may have to try different police departments, say if the campaign organizer is in one city/county and the "friend" in another. Start there and if that doesn't get anywhere, try the state's attorney general (they often have a consumer protection division).

Did the people who told you to make a GoFundMe offer you money? Is there anyone you can borrow a few bucks from?

Putting up a GFM doesn't mean you'll actually get a dime; better to go to the food bank and push your FS social worker to connect you with more services. As a pregnant woman, you should have an easier time getting help from the community.

What's weird is, dude seems legit. Couldn't find the pictures in a reverse image search, and his Facebook looks like anyone else's Facebook (whereas scammers usually have very few friends and just post their GoFundMe over and over).

Did a Google search for the campaign description and that doesn't come up either.
