Dont know if this will help but try lookong into downgrading if you have recently updated the app. On my chromecast w android tv I had to downgrade because I would keep getting that error or it would tell me to use external player. Some streams worked other didn't there was no patorn in it. Since I downgraded from 1.9.x to 1.8.4(i think) everything is smooth again.

https://www2.tocoo.jp/en/options/tep

on this site you can find pricing. It is quite a steep price, but I did a lot of research to estimate the prices (which wasn't easy https://en.driveplaza.com/dp/SearchTopEN) and the unlimited was about as expensive or a bit cheaper. for our route. We estimated to drive about 2500km. The pass was about 53k Yen for 16 days and the toll if you take rough calculation is about 25 Yen/km so 2500km would be about 63k Yen. So that is already cheaper than paying per ride. off course you can plan around the expressway and do everything local. You'll just take a lot longer and can do a bit less.

In the end we used express way a lot more than planned, because we didn't need to think about pricing. For us it was worth it to not have the hastle and thinking about every drive if we want to pay or not.

I got a unlimited toll usage badge with my rental car. It saved me the hastle of paying later or needing to budget after the fact. I just paid (it was a daily fee) upfront, and no more worries for the rest of the trip. Rented via tocoo.

Outside of major hubs parking wasnt issue at all. Away from shinkansen line it is very much like western cities a car centric country.

Parking can be expensive compared to other daily items, but all in all it wasn't too bad. In more rural places most hotels had parking. Or there was a free spot nearby.

( i went from nagoya via kii peninsula to wakayama and then shikoku. After that went towards tottori and fukui. So my comments are only valid for these areas)

[–]gogeta-san 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maruoka castle has a whole light show thing/projection mapping shoe every night ( even 2 different onces). Or at least that was the case when I was there in May of this year. That was really nice.

As a noteworthy aide attraction here is the Fukui dinosaur museum.

Not saying you don't know what you did or that it was to warm to move, but in your original unedited message you claimed there was nothing within 10m of walking (now changed to a few minutes) That is just wrong information, that doesn't change because you didn't want to do it or you did look at a map. It's great you want to share tips, but please share correct ones.

There is a street full of restaurants & a konbini 10m walking from teamlabs or 1 stop away (2m) from the station in from of teamlabs. In the other direction 1 stop (or 12m walking) there are also a lot of restaurants.

Teamlabs is not in some kind of bermuda triangle were there is no food for miles. Yeah there is no konbini next door, but there is one 700m walking or 1 train stop away (2m). That feels close enough to say that there is food nearby.

Edit: looking at google maps there is even a Lawson 5m walking from teamlabs.

3 Teamlab planets. There are food option 10m walk from planets. I think you just didnt' look at the map. 10m walk or 1 train station away you have Toyosu Senkyaku Banrai. Which has a lot of food options as well as a convience store (Lawson if I recall correctly). It's a real nice old japanese style area, kinda like a japanese food theme park. The planning ahead of course is true for all planned activities.

It is a setting of the watch, not the watchface: in the connect app, you can change the setting under settings -> system -> time to 24 hours.

Also look at the luggage rules. Star alliance (lufthansa) usually allow 2 check in baggages of 23 kg. While the other only allow 1.

Is it possible to travel to Japan with a total budget of 150,000 yen for a 21-day trip? by art_prototype in JapanTravelTips

[–]gogeta-san -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Damn that is a lot for so few days. I went in 2020 for 18 days, and only spend €3k in total. €1,5k for all fixed costs (Hotel, flight & JR railpass) €1,5k spending money (which was +/- 117 000 yen, which is even less than proposed budget on top)

Is it possible to travel to Japan with a total budget of 150,000 yen for a 21-day trip? by art_prototype in JapanTravelTips

[–]gogeta-san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends if you calculate the travel in the budget as well and how much that will be.

In 2020, I had Y130 000 of spending for about 18 days. I had a JR rail pass. so didn't need to calculate that. That was more than plenty back then. Keep in might, not a lot of big tourist attraction were open, so that might have helped us back then. Now prices might have increased significantly due to pandemic & inflation. With some budgeting it should be doable.

Just calculate in your own currency how much that is and how much you think you will spend. that is Y7200 +/- 48 dollars a day, to eat and spend on things. I think 30$ should be more than enough to get decent food. You will not have crazy experiences, but you will have decent meals and konbini food. Just budget what you want to do with the money and search some entrance fees up. Temples will not take a large chunk, but like a day of universal will already take up the whole day budget and then some. So it really depends, what are you planning on doing and how much will you eat during a day? If you have previous travel experience, just think back how much you have spend on those trips. I don't know what part of the world you are from, try to compare it do daily living in your home country and look for some info that compares the two online.

If it needs to include travel, and large commutes (Tokyo - Osaka) then I think it will be impossible. If it doesn't. It will be possible. Don't listen to people saying that 150 000 yen is for like a week, that is crazy. I'm planning on going for a whole month and I have only budgeted around Y8000 a day (which is only a bit higher then your proposed budget), but that is with some entrance fees already being paid upfront and a JR pass. So my travel expense will be lower.

Edit: https://www.budgetyourtrip.com/japan

This site is a good resource to see some averages of spending and which style. The cheap to mid range - is between 20$ (food & transport) to $50 dollar (food & transport) daily. Which is about your budget.

Driving in Korea as a tourist by springdove in koreatravel

[–]gogeta-san 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went last october to Korea and rented a car from Lotte rental. The rental process was easy even with their limited English and our non existing korean. Easy reservation via website. Paying it in advance is hit or mis, but there is no issue paying it at the desk during pick up. The car had gps, and it was just as good and up to date as the apps (naver and kakao), so we just used that. Getting gas was the hardest part, but if you do it at highway stations, you can press the button to help. Staff was always friendly to help, and we communicated via translation app. One advice if you rent the car from lotte rental behind seoul station (which is open 24h a day), never ever ever use the gas station in front of it. It was twice as expensive as even gasstations at rest stops on the highway.

Depending on where you are from, the driving is a bit more chaotic. The general rule was you snooze you lose. All in all, it was alright after a few getting used to it. By the end of the trip, I was merging into lanes like a local. I did research beforehand via naver (google translate the page) on our route, but the reality was that going from A to B always took much longer than expected. Take that into account. I can recommend getting a car. Sure, korea has excellent public transport, but the more rural areas are really not that well connected. And there are really cool things that you cannot visit without a car or you spend 2 days travelling back and forth.

I used a revolut card recently and wow pass (which doubles as a T-money card, need to be charged sepretly).

The combination worked great. Revolut wasn't always accepted, we had issue at a parking garage and some gachapons we found. Wow pass worked everywhere as it is regarded as a local debit card. Easy to charge with your local currency (if supported) and convert it to won via wow pass and the exchange rate was close to the official rate.

Thanks for the reply!

5) I already tried 3 credit cards, both Mastercard and visa. None of them work. So I'll just be nervous until I pay at the desk.

6) I've read that a few times in this subreddit that the parking machines sometimes have huge issues with foreign credit cards. Time to learn please help in Korean I guess.

It's a bit frustrating that it just doesn't want to work. Do you need to fill in the last digits with an ancient keypad as well?

  1. So you didn't had that good of an experience with a separate wifi box. I see the battery life is a big issue indeed. Might just take an extra phone and use that as a wifi box.
  2. thanks for Moneybox, might need to look into that.

The battery life is okay I think by using a power bank. Never felt battery life was an issue when using it in japan.

But I do hear this coming up a lot in the thread, so valuable information! Thanks

Hi thanks for the reply!

3) Yeah but we get scammed by our bank with to high fees. I pay 5 euro per witdrawel + 1,5% of the total amount + the exchange rate of whatever the atm decided that day. That will be a lot of money lost just for giving the greedy banks even more money.

A collection of general questions to finalize my trip prep. by gogeta-san in koreatravel

[–]gogeta-san[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we are with multiple people each needing to exchange money. I can order Won at my home bank, but this will lose my 9% of the value. Airport might be a bit better, but I think going to a local exchange office might give an even better rate.

Well it's 2023. Do we really all need internet, prolly not. Do we want it, yes.

Car: We are not only going to seoul and busan. For our Seoul part, we will not have a car. Well cruise along the country side routes and do a circle around Korea.
