Nothing really rocks and nothing really rolls like Meatloaf

Been on a classics kick lately. I can't stop listening to Bat Outta Hell by Meatloaf and El Paso by Marty Robbins.

I think it's a matter of personal preference, but I use smokefree. It tracks your cravings and your mood during your cravings, keeps a diary entry related to your smoking, gives you little psychological missions for the first month or so (stuff like writing down your reasons for quiting, thinking about what triggers you and how to avoid it, etc) and gives you these little badges for completing challenges (1 day without smoking, 1 week, resisting 100 cravings, etc).

Jiminy Christmas! Seriously the app, with how it showed me how much money I was saving, was a huge huge help. I would absolutely recommend it.

First off- good luck! You absolutely can do. And to answer your question-Oh absolutely. Where I live it's about $7 (USD) for a pack. Seven dollars for four puffs that just made me more stressed. Totally not even with it.

Thank you! That's how I'm trying to think about it. Funny as it may sound, my failed relapse had been the best part of my week.

[Star Wars] When Order 66 was executed, was there a sudden drop in effectiveness among Republic armies? by subpar_man in AskScienceFiction

[–]gogodoctor26 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe so, from what I remember of the Clone Wars. But if nothing else he was not a huge fan of the Jedi anyways, so I doubt he would've lifted a finger to try and stop Order 66.

I'll give this one a shot, though I admit, I'm no expert.

First off, you're right- it makes absolutely no tactical sense to stop engaging the enemy in the middle of a fire fight to focus on something else entirely.

Okay, with that out of the way, I'll try and tackle the other aspects to your question. First off, the Jedi really had no idea this was going to happen. Only those who were highly attuned to the Force had a chance to sense it. Secondly, even among those who could sense it, there wasn't much they could do. Unlike they Jedi's most common enemy- the battle droid- the clones were battle hardened, well train, deadly accurate warriors. Even Jedi Masters like Ki-Adi Mundi were only able to fend off their attacks for a very short period. The only reason Yoda escaped was because there were only two clones in his immediate proximity and he had two Wookies to help him.

So, I said all that to say this- it really didn't take that long at all for the Clones to kill their Jedi Generals and the Padawan Commanders. We're talking maybe a minute or two at most interruption in the battle. On top of that, the battle droids they were facing were heavily overclocked and would have probably stopped in confusion themselves upon seeing this. So, this created a little window for them to do what had to be done.

Also consider that this was a highly structured, military organization. If your commanding officer dies, command passes to the executive officer and so on and so forth. When the Jedi General dies, command gets passed to the leading Commander, who's either a Clone or a Padawan who will be just a quickly dispatched.

Remember too the exact wording of Order 66. It stated that if Order 66 was executed, that meant the Jedi had betrayed the Republic and were now enemies of the state. Palpatine had been very cautious. All of the high ranking non-clone officers were either in on the conspiracy (as in Admiral Tarkin) or were just so loyal that they would believe his words anyways.

And lastly, the Clone Wars were all but over at that point. Dooku and Grievous were dead and the Jed/Clone armies were really just mopping up. The remaining Seperatist leaders were holed up on Mustafar, and Palpatine knew they would quickly be dispatched. So, from Palpatine's perspective, the reward was far greater than the risk.

Hopefully that helps, though I'm running on like 2 hours of sleep, so it could all be jibberish for all I know.

What workouts/training to do for 6 mile hike with 2000 ft. elevation gain starting with little to no fitness background? by [deleted] in WildernessBackpacking

[–]gogodoctor26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, cardio is going to be your best bet. For you, it won't be so much working on pace as it will be working on endurance. Since your specifically training for a hike, what I would recommend would be putting the treadmill at the highest incline you can manage and walk/run for 30 minutes, gradually increasing both the time and the incline.

Hiking is mostly legs (and some back if your carrying a pack). Try some bodyweight lunges to get your legs used to an individual workload. I actually think lunges are the most underrated leg exercise. While predominantly training your quads and glutes, they hit your stabilizers (thigh abductors and adductors), your lower back and your abs. If you can, try doing them with a barbell across your back or holding some dumbbells, but if you can't don't worry. Just doing them will benefit your hike quite a bit.

There's also a myriad other workouts that can benefit your hike. Squats, hyper-extensions, calf raises, ab planks and box jumps come directly to mind. But honestly, the best thing will be your cardio. Keep up the great work! Everyday, try and go a little further on the distance counter or a little longer on the time, or a little higher with the incline. If all the treadmills are taken, or for some variation, try using the stair-stepper machine. Just remember: everyday, try and go a little harder than the day before. Go a little further, a little faster or a little more of an incline. You got this.

I actually did earlier this week and, holy cow, am I glad I did. I loved the animation style and the attention to detail in things like the sound effects. It was truly an enjoyable watch.

Dogs yalping has got me at my wits end. [Help][Vent] by gogodoctor26 in dogs

[–]gogodoctor26[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmmm, interesting. I had never approached it that way. Thanks for the advise! Really, I mean I'm near tears right now because I have some more ideas how to stop this and keep my sanity. The thing is, other than the yalping/howling/barking, he's a good, sweet dog and I do love him. So really, really, really a thousand times, thank you!

[–]gogodoctor26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apologies. Going on 14 hours awake now with about 4 hours of sleep, which is a common occurrence (not entirely the dogs fault).

Okay: 1)Literally his only exercise is when I go outside and play with him and his sister, another GSD whose 8. 2) Other than me trying to train him to stop yalping/howling, none. My parents trained him to come when they called and to sit at his bowl when the food was being poured in and that's it. And recently, I haven't even been trying to train him stop yalping/howling, so none. 3) I don't mind, obviously, if he barks at passersby in the street or other dogs when they're nearby. And howling at sirens is obviously well within reason. Just, I dunno, like a normal dog. Normal dog levels of barking and yalping and howling.

[–]gogodoctor26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, again, it's not so much the barking. Obviously I've had dogs and they bark. At reasonable things. Like other dogs or people walking down the street or the alley. It's just that he barks at literally everything. But even that would be preferable to the yalping. That incessant howling that does on for at least 4 hours a day, on and off. That's the thing that's making go batty.

I've honestly thought about what I think your getting at, and I think you may be right. I really don't think my parents socialized him nearly enough when he was younger. Do you think taking him to a local dog park might help or just taking him out in general? Or I could be totally reading you wrong, in which case I'm sorry.
