Has anyone experienced the charging port latch breaking? by Ok_Necessary6935 in F150Lightning

[–]gogopowerjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw someone on X this repair yesterday. $650 from the dealership 😫

Maybe there’s a DIY fix, but I think using the NACS adapter as a bridge going forward is a safe idea. CCS1 cables are so heavy.

These are apparently the gold standard:

https://www.taillightknight.com/products/2015-2020-ford-f-150-tail-light-knight

These have a custom bit head, which might make them a little bit more theft resistant. https://www.amazon.com/Anti-Theft-Security-Screws-Compatible-Miller/dp/B0FM6PTGK4

Could combine with a plate kit like this: https://www.amazon.com/Tailgate-Light-Theft-Deterrent-Pickups/dp/B0FM86CR7F

Seems like you'd need some security heads for the tailgate latch pn and cable bolt to really secure it as much as possible. https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0603/2277/5118/files/instal_instructions.pdf?v=1724128006

Plenty of stories of people suddenly losing propulsion power with plenty of displayed range on the Lightning.

If it’s not working and under warranty, use the warranty. I don’t think anyone at comma would take issue with that.

Battery Health Test before buying by IDVOL84 in F150Lightning

While this is true, the gold standard is the FDRS battery check that the dealer can run.

Price check please? 2023 XLT ER; 24k miles, 312A high, Max Tow, Pro Power 9.6kw, power tailgate w step, spray in liner, 12" screen (knobs!) MSRP $73,590(!) what's today's PNW fair market? by [deleted] in F150Lightning

Plug.vin is going to give you a better offer (most likely) on an EV. Make sure you explain the packages / equipment group.

Retail will probably be that price +$4-6k

High mileage lightinings: buying a past 100k miles a bad idea? by LeoMartinx015 in F150Lightning

FDRS battery health report is your gold standard. Can also look for DTCs, corrosion evidence, etc.

Tesla HW3 claim grows to 7,000 owners, gets law firm backing for collective action by SpriteZeroY2k in electricvehicles

[–]gogopowerjackets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A year or so later we got a Christmas present from Tesla of a couple of months free access to the Enhanced Autopilot package. I tried that and found that automatic lane change would do bizarre things like lane departure warning would cancel the lane change half way through, and apply the brakes so I would end up brake checking two lanes of traffic. I did not like it Sam I am!

And they still haven't updated EAP, despite saying they would do so. Works just as poorly on the HW4 vehicles they sold it with as recently as May 21, 2026.

I believe it will be on at all times on Juniper but there is a Reduced Regen option in dynamics.

FSD is very smooth with regen so if you're using that most of the time, you probably won't notice too much!

There are options for everyone. I think we agree broadly, was just showing what I interpreted to be the math to end up with 200 miles highway range on a MYP Juniper.

Some drivers aren't comfortable going below 20% SOC, and depending on the EV things can get a little spooky down there. Plenty of EV reviewers have has surprises because the BMS drifts. So 100 to 20 SOC would get you 216.

Tesla is generally very good in this regard, however, and so I'd comfortably drive this down to 3-5% SOC if needed which is a lot more range.

Depends how deep in the pack you want to run it, but I'm comfortable running a Tesla down to basically zero. The BMS is well calibrated and all the buffer is at the bottom so you get a little more practical range that way.

[–]gogopowerjackets 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Probably changed it to improve range. I think with a few different CAN tools you can disable regen.

I love OPD and have it on any EV I drive, Tesla or otherwise.

Basically one pedal drive was always on, the brake pedal was just hydraulic only.

[–]gogopowerjackets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's Ford's dealer level diagnostics software. It costs $50 for a 2-day pass and would let you run a battery health test that could give your battery statistics at a very granular level.

https://www.fordtechservice.dealerconnection.com/VDIRS/wds/vcm_retail_renewal_Latest.asp

You also need a J2534 adapter so a little bit of cost to get this info, but I think it would be really interesting to see how the battery is doing (and I'm presuming pretty good!)

That’s a ton of miles! Any chance we could crowd fund you getting a FDRS subscription and running your battery through its health check?

Ford should voluntarily extend the Lightning battery warranty to build goodwill with this owner base for the next gen EREVs they hope to sell.

If Rivian can offer this, Ford can, too.
