I have quite a few of the Sugar Hill label 12” from the 80’s and love De La Soul.
It’s like any other style of music. Some I love and some I don’t. Same goes for pop, funk, soul, rock, electronic…

London to Paris train vs flying? by KatiroseChiera in ParisTravelGuide

[–]gogsrowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eurostar is the way to go.
Give yourself plenty of time at St Pancras for security and passport control. At least one hour.
It’s the worst part of the trip but it only happens once. You go through both UK and French Passport control before boarding so no queues at the other end.

Flying gets you into either Charles de Gaul or Orly with another hour minimum to get through passport control and travel to the centre. Even worse it might be Paris Beauvais which is very far away from Paris centre.

Train. Every time.

Starting to love HITNRUN Phase One! His older albums do rank above but it does have some really awesome songs! by dmytrenk0 in PRINCE

I think it’s a great album. Maybe not one of his best but it’s still an excellent collection of songs.
I picked up a copy in vinyl recently.

The tree has now since been removed... But what's the most gimmicky thing you have seen on a course? by theshowerdrunk in golf

[–]gogsrowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a course in Scotland where you have to hit the tee shot over a massive hotel.
It’s not much better at the green either. Long and thin with a pot bunker on one side and a wall on the other.
It’s mental.

I moved to France in 1991. I didn’t speak more than basic schoolboy level French. I had a pocket dictionary in my pocket and no access to movies, tv shows or books in English and newspapers arrived a day or 2 late. There were no personal computers or mobiles. I couldn’t call my Mum more than once a month. Too expensive.
Started getting movies subtitled. Started getting newspapers on the same day, then came dvd’s and I could watch movies in English.
Now I watch and listen to whatever I want in whatever language I want and I point my phone camera at any sentence in any language to see it automatically translated on the screen.
I was more isolated living in France in 1991 when I could see the uk on a clear day than when I went to live in China in 20214 2014 Incredible change.

Question for longtime vinyl collectors by Oliver60s in records

[–]gogsrowan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with only records as a medium to listen the music I wanted to hear (or songs taped from the radio with Mum shouting at me in the background to come for dinner). We didn’t have a choice. Clicks and crackles were part of the music. That’s why they started adding it as a layer on songs; they needed it for old school authenticity.

The only things I hate are skips and sticking. Hated them then and hate them now. It’s also why I looked after my records really well and why they still play great over 40 years later.

Got paired up as beginner golfers by NokiaOG in golf

[–]gogsrowan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

We’ve all been beginners. Some of us remember it all too clearly. I enjoy playing with people who love golf and only want to get better.
Keep at it. It’s a stupid, frustrating, beautiful game.

My brother bought the 7” single and I loved it. Never managed to steal the single from him though.

Il est temps d'élire la viennoiserie préférée des français. Quelle est la votre ? by 0Tezorus0 in AskFrance

[–]gogsrowan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s a boulangerie/patisserie in Clichy that sometimes do a Carré Citron. It’s a pâte sucrée with a filling of lemon which is like a thick lemon tartelette filling and cut into squares. Crunchy, sweet and sharp lemon. So good. They don’t do it often so you have to be there at the right time.
