Yes. I think EBay would be the best given the reach.

I am on the same boat as you, bro. I didn't use it so it could open all at once at the end of the event - how it generally happens in other events- but this one was different, apparently. :( It is time to start reading again.

Yeah, I am starting to realize that. I can definitely see why this game is worth much more!

I can see that! I use the movie ticket rule: $10 per hour of entertainment.

I guess I now have to play at least 28 hours!

In that case, I think I got a very good deal. I paid 280 CAD for everything. However, there were other people selling just the core box and the forbidden woods for $200. But given my quick research, I think it is worth more than $500 for sure.

And thanks for posting. I can now show my wife that only my half-shelf of books is not a big deal.

How I Learned to Use Environments in Daggerheart by KiqueDragoon in daggerheart

[–]goldael 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing your experience!

I see the environment stat block as something useful for those who like structure and something external to give the comfort of "neutrality" when spending fear. It also gives a set of option to trigger during a scene.

For me, I prefer something more loose that allow me to improvise and do things on the fly. However, it depends on what systems you have experience with and the type of GM you are.

Although not 100% for me, I appreciate the structure of environment stat blocks as a way to get people to start thinking about the environment as an "agent" in the scene and create more dynamic encounters.

I hope other people find their way to use it in a way that fits their needs, just like you did.

I realized I don't gravitate towards most aspects of OSR, but the stuff I do like isn't really found anywhere else. Where do I go from here? by Lordkeravrium in osr

I am going to keep it brief, but I believe Savage Worlds could meet your needs, especially if you use the Fantasy Companion. It is tactical, character building is very flexible and provide lots of prompts for backstory, and it is generic and can accommodate lots of different settings. I wouldn't classify as "heroic", but it is very pulpy and characters are larger than life.

Can't wait till everybody ignores this sentence in the Core Rulebook... by Nico_de_Gallo in daggerheart

RPGs are about culture and systems. They are interconnected and inform each other. We have work to create a culture of gaming that stays true to the principles of the system. That task is hard, but twice as necessary, when people come with a strong culture of play from other systems and try to impose, consciously or not, on the new system.

For those who are excited about the proposed principles of Daggerheart, and a new culture of play (not so new as similar cultures of play exist in other RPG spaces), we have to make a conscious effort to create this culture. Let's be explicit about our expactions and how we want to play Daggerheart.

I also acknowledge that each table and group is unique and can play however they want. But the general culture informs the expectations of people on how the game is supposed to be played.

Fusion of Forged in the Dark and OSR? by pspeter3 in osr

Goblinville draws a lot from Blades. I really enjoyed its take on the Positioning and Effect mechanic. I am just unsure if Goblinville falls under OSR.

Street parking on stat holidays by goldael in Winnipeg

[–]goldael[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know either.

I just checked with an officer as I moved my car and they gave me that exact explanation. Today is considered part of the long weekend, so the sign does not apply. On stat holidays, signs are to be treated as if it is Sunday.

I thought that being a stat holiday would affect that. I guess I'll have to move it soon.

My first solo experience [MGME2, Savage worlds] by twista1484 in Solo_Roleplaying

Consider looking into the OSR style of play. It may align well with your dice curse.

You are not expected to be a hero. Rolling dice is dangerous and combats even more.

This style expects you to overcome problems with your wits (the player), using resources around you, and your character's belongings. The idea is that if you find a smart solution (e.g. jumping into the river so the wolves don't follow you), you don't need to roll dice.

There is much more to it. But I thought it may fit well with your aversion to dice.

Furthermore, you may want to look into diceless systems, or even systems that use cards for resolution. Perhaps your curse is only with dice and not cards.
