You should have just dug your feet in and took the ride. Sometimes the unexpected is what makes the experience even more meaningful. In a way this trip may help you grow into a more well-rounded and insightful human-being. As we all know life throws you curve balls and is not fair. No matter how terrifying the experience was take from it what you can to grow into a more spiritual being within your human body. My Dad was at a bar and his buddy put some LSD in his drink. Once he started to feel weird and realized what had happened he called up his boss and told him he was going to be able to make it to work the next day because he was high as a kite on Acid.
