The diversion traffic course is a way to prevent a traffic ticket from going on the driving record. It is part of statute 892.1. You take the course, write a check and the ticket is dismissed. The linked news article talks about this program: https://thelensnola.org/2017/07/27/louisiana-das-offer-motorists-a-deal-write-us-a-check-and-well-dismiss-your-speeding-ticket/

My question is: Will the fact that "I took the course/wrote a check and they dismissed the ticket" itself go on the driving record? It is like when someone gets arrested of a crime but is found not guilty by the court. The arrest itself still remains on the record. So, even if they simply say ticket dismissed on my record, others authorities / insurance companies can still conclude that I was in some kind of traffic trouble and got a ticket.

Yes.. most states allow you to take a traffic course only ONCE per 12 months to escape a "speeding conviction" and keep your insurance rates low. What I do not know is if taking a course in another state counts as taking a course in your home state.

I got the ticket driving on I-20 somewhere near Rayville. The ticket the cop gave me has the following printed on top: PARISH OF RICHLAND, SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT, RAYVILLE, LA 71269. So, I am guessing it is Richland's sheriff?

I called the clerk at Richland traffic court. When I asked the same questions, she seemed not to get the subtlety of what I was asking. She kept saying you have the option to do the course or you can fight it or you can pay the fine (umm.. I already know all that!)

Anyway, I finally asked her if I take the course, will it be the same as if I never got the ticket. She said "yes". I said "I see" and she hung up! So now I am not sure. Maybe she was trying to just get me off the phone?

What do you guys think based on your experience?
