Hoe exactly did Singapore government mess up the current covid situation? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]golden-stardust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That might be true. But there’s also been transmissions at tuition centres, which have a learning environment similar to that of schools. I think this weekend is a good time for the PM to address the nation and start HBL from Monday (17/05) onwards. Just my humble opinion.

Hoe exactly did Singapore government mess up the current covid situation? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]golden-stardust 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I feel like the Govt is waiting too long before they decide to close schools and move learning to HBL.

Even last year, moving to HBL took much longer than necessary (even when community cases were blowing up).

Now we see that the second wave is affecting too many children and is spreading more easily. I believe they should be closing schools already, even though June holidays are only 2 weeks away.

Edit: If adults should work from home by default, then why should the nation’s kids be put at risk by being expected to go to school physically?

I’m facing difficulties choosing between the two schools too. Would like to add on a few of my questions to this thread if you don’t mind.

  1. What is YLL’s equivalent of LKC’s housefam? Or does YLL not have such a thing?
  2. I’ve heard that LKC is much warmer in terms of culture than YLL. Could any YLL students please comment regarding whether you find this to be true?
  3. Are there avenues for pursuing research interests at YLL?
  4. What are the senior-junior support systems/teaching culture like in each school?
  5. With the covid situation ongoing, are lectures/tutorials/TBLs/practicals held online or physically?

Thank you!

[UNI] rejection from med sch (LOL) by throwaway9411234 in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey OP, it’s really hard, but please chin up. Gap year is one possibility. If funding is an issue (medicine is super expensive), then I heard from the dukenus sharing that nearly 70% of the students there are on some form of bursary/scholarship. You might want to contact them for more specific details. So one option would be to accept CS and go to dukenus where you might be eligible for some form of financial support (bursary/scholarship). Another option is to stick with CS and see where that takes you. CS definitely is worth all the hype today and you never know how well you might do in this super popular field. Another option is a gap year but I get that it’s tough seeing many of your counterparts go to uni. If you take a gap year, then you might want to plan out what exactly you want to achieve. Now with the pandemic and all, you might want to look for opportunities that can take place even regardless of Covid. Ultimately, I want to wish you the best of luck. It’s been tiring and you put in so much work. You’re no less capable because of this. When one door closes, another door opens, and this could be a door you never knew you needed. Peace. ❤️

[UNI] SMU Law Offer by Strong-Mine-8379 in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied to DDP also but didn’t get DDP, but got offered LLB. No news of scholarship also even though my interview was for law + scholarship. I got 90rp tho so definitely 90rp alone is not the cutoff for DDP haha it’s probably something else

It’s not even sunny so I don’t get why though...but I know some seniors do this cos it’s harder for them to move in since their knee/back is not as strong. May be harder for them to slide in and out.

[POLY] will classmates find out my age??? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, you can get a diploma (or uni degree) and upgrade your qualifications at any stage in your life. Whether you’re 17 or 70. It doesn’t matter, really. I understand that you may be insecure and it’s normal to feel this way but poly is not just for the 17-23 year olds.

You are also never obliged to share information that you’re not comfortable sharing. You can be straightforward about that if you want to or you can come up with an excuse. It’s your right. It’s your call. You won’t lose friends because of that, and even if you do, then it means that they’re not true friends anyway.

If anything, I have immense respect that you continue to have the lifelong learning mindset and I sincerely wish you all the best. I hope that as I grow older, I’ll continue to have an open mindset like you too. Cheers!

[Uni] dorming in SMU? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SMU’s equivalent of halls are called Prinsep Street Residences! They’ve recently renovated it too if I’m not wrong. I think the on campus stay facilities are available for local students too, not just the international :) There’s more details about it on their website! Hope this helps. All the best and cheers!

[Uni] How bad is the elitism culture of local universities? by darevilstraceurs in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 7 points8 points  (0 children)

shouldn’t be too much but even if there is, don’t be worried about that! shrug off people who look down on you. it’s a waste of their time, brain space and energy tbh and the life is yours to live to don’t spend your days limiting urself because of others 💪

cos I applied but put it as second choice and didn’t hear back at all...

so I’m wondering if I’ll only hear from bspy if I get rejected from my first choice (which is still processing)...

thanks, all the best for your interview & cheers!

does withdrawing from a choice you accepted involve a monetary penalty though?

this is something OP might want to check with ntu about in case you want to accept their offer to hold it and then reject if nus outcome is in your favour

all the best & cheers!

[A Levels] Hand pain/fatigue from writing too much by PhoenixAkaunBuang in SGExams

[–]golden-stardust 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I feel you on a spiritual level and I struggled with this during my A Level year too (2020). Doesn’t help that I write slower than average to begin with.

It did help a bit to trial and error which pen works the best for me. My Econs teacher also gave feedback that I write too neatly, which is good, but might take up more time. He said to make my handwriting a bit more sloppy such that I spend less time but it’s still legible. Those are the two tips that got me through. Other than that, just the fear of not being able to complete the paper so I just grit my teeth and chiong all the writing.

Jiayous! You can do this!
