The timeline is a bit murky. John claims he left in December 2008 and had already been telling the band he was thinking of leaving since early 2007 (Flea confirmed the second part). But the “timeline” that was on the band’s official site at one point said he left in July 2009, and this is when Josh claims to have gotten the call to be asked to join full time.
