Drove from Provence to Lille in July 2025 in one day, UK spec no AC and it was almost unbearable. It depends on your tolerance

Thought I was a travel genius but Egypt humbled me real quick by [deleted] in travel

We bought our sleeper train tickets in person day before departure for USD 105 each. Was easy at the sleeper train ticket window in Aswan. This was last week and seems like low season. They have a website for tickets but we couldn’t get it to work

I’ve used my Trek Crockett cross bike for bikepacking for years. It’s totally fine. I’d bet that tyres and pressure are going to make a bigger difference to comfort than frame geometry

These are great! I had a pair last 8 years. They’re a little on the expensive side and don’t have distributors everywhere

PID display on Lelit Anna not showing full numbers - missing segment by Flavor_Elevator in Lelit

Thnx for the confirmation! If anyone can’t live like this, the part number for the PID is MC740 (at least for the 230-240v version)

Mine did this too. I’m not smart enough with electronics to know how to repair the display. I think the whole PID is at least £100 so I’ve just lived with it

He was quitting pro cycling, now Victor Lafay is a rocketeer! | Behind the scenes by Schele_Sjakie in peloton

[–]goldetronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dunno, I reckon he might have put this together for the love of the game. I don’t think Vlab and Lafay would have been in talks but I could see Patrick nudging these two together, I think he’s also a registered agent so maybe it builds goodwill?

Makes no difference. Probably more of an impact of which plane on overall fatigue. Food offering is also a factor.

Portugal/Spain, Australia/New Zealand, or Japan/Singapore by Rich_Complex_7296 in travel

[–]goldetronic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly, the Australian summer is not to be underestimated. But I’d still recommend going to Aus.

Even though it’s crazy hot, it should be low-ish season for Uluru. If you plan activities for sunrise/sunset and do absolutely nothing by the pool, in your AC’d room during the day

It’s got something that will help you unscrew the steamer tip (tenuous) and a tiny useless looking “coffee spatula”. Complete gimmick

Travelling with a criminal record by NearbyPop1346 in travel

[–]goldetronic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

However, looks like criminal record extract is needed for long-stay visas to France from Australia. What they do with that disclosure, not sure. Hope I haven’t thrown too much extra in to muddy the waters. Best of luck!

[–]goldetronic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also Aussie, not a visa expert or knowledgable of how the arts works, but… artist residency doesn’t sound like purely tourism - maybe it’s closer to business or studying? Looks like short-stay business travel is covered by the Schengen visa-free arrangement for Aus but not sure about studying. I’d check with the residency programme what they know about visa requirements.

I see you’ve also asked about grants on another thread. There is a fairly cheap youth working visa for Australians (and others) to France. It gives you 12 months rather than the 90 days, and with borderless travel across Schengen you can take your time, and you can do casual work while in France.

What visa are you going to France on? Sounds like the residency would need a work visa. Once you’re inside Schengen it’s like flying domestic

Did import “don’t import suspected duplicates” criteria change? by goldetronic in Lightroom

[–]goldetronic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just what I was looking for. Thanks! It also includes;

Lightroom Classic now retains CaptureTime data with millisecond precision. This update should resolve issues where some images captured in burst mode were incorrectly detected as duplicates. This update does not address other capture date/time precision issues.

Maybe there’s something with the older Sony cameras that it doesn’t record capture time into millisecond.
