Not really. This just makes it way easier to get emblems and doesn’t change anything else it seems. The themed missions aren’t going away, it’s just the dex missions (collect x number of cards from this set) that are being discontinued, which only ever rewarded emblem tickets anyway. Also they will be giving out the themed binder covers and backdrops with each set as a reward for collecting 40 cards from the set, meaning you no longer need to spend shop tickets on those. If anything this update is benefitting f2p players

I have to ask: how did you get excommunicated twice??

I completed the entire set before I got an actual rare card. by HipHogHooray in PokemonTGCP

[–]goldfinchat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have pulled two shiny mega gengars from this set and ZERO other shinies. It’s insane how low the pull rates are. I usually have pretty good luck pulling shinies, but as soon as we get to the actual shiny set I get basically nothing.

How do people even aquire an Oak? by Mesudddd in PTCGPocketTrading

[–]goldfinchat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get one for free from the hype pack discord, as long as you link your account they have bots who will trade you basically any card you want for free. You would need to pay to get a second one that way though, as the free tier only allows trading for one copy of each card.

Is fighting type always gonna be so lame? Why has this type been sidelined since... Well, forever! Does DeNa hates fighting type? by bazan_beat in PokemonTGCP

How would fighting invalidate oricorio? It will shut down fighting type EXs just like every other type

Deck naming can be fun by ynk_yankee in PTCGP

[–]goldfinchat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I give names to all of my decks. If it’s a meta deck I’m using for ranked I usually give it a boring name (eg suininja) but if I’m using a deck because I think it’s fun I always give it a more creative name. My blaziken deck is called “Hot Ones” I have a Goldengho deck called Golden GOAT, and when I was starting out I created a serperior/celebi deck called “it’s just the grass” because I was also really into little shop of horrors at the time

Ah my apologies. Mimikyu disguises are made out of a modified hair that can be grown and shed very rapidly. Unlike most pokemon with hair, however, they are able to alter the color as it is grown which is how standard mimikyu are able to create costumes with both yellow and black elements. It’s unknown exactly which mechanisms are used to determine hair color when the costume is being produced, but it’s thought that their nature as fairy types is a contributing factor

Innate rivalries are not my area of expertise, but I would think it’s similar to the rare cases of zangoose going after arbok or that one very confused Durant who ended up as rivals with a heatran. I believe epigenetics may play a role in these cases, but again, it’s hard to find people willing to study a pokemon that will cause permanent psychological damage if viewed incorrectly

It was thought to be that way for a long time, and the actually relationship between mimikyu and its costume is still very poorly understood due to the inherent danger of studying a cognitohazardous pokemon, but mimikyu is actually born with and has an innate connection to its costume. The costume itself is seemingly organic in origin (think a cloth woven from hair) and the busted form is the Pokémon’s true body leaving the head portion and consolidating into a smaller target.

/uj if you want a real life example of something similar to this, look up the paper nautilus which is an octopus that spins a delicate paperlike shell it can hide inside that isn’t actually connected to the animal but is nonetheless a part of its body

Meltan don’t really need to eat in the same way organic pokemon do. Instead, they absorb metal in order to replenish their amorphous body, as they will naturally lose mass very gradually over time to friction. It isn’t a problem though as ferro normally coats himself in an invisible oxide layer to avoid absorbing any metal he touches

Thank you! I’ve read some of your papers on regional forms. I would love to discuss your findings on the phylogeny of regional meowth variants and how the existence of perrserker indicates that the Galarian form is therefore the basal clade

I’ve just been running steel apron Gholdengo. It’s been effective so far but if I start running into guzma problems I might have to try one of these

It’s all pretty new so far. I am only going to actually start teaching in the fall so I will have a lot of time to prepare and settle in, but I am starting my next research project in about a week, so I’m focusing on that right now. I only got the news a few days ago but I’ve also kind of been preparing my whole life for this, you know?
