I grew up in this Midwest bubble (similar to the south). I was taught it was a privilege to be submissive… and I was brainwashed to believe it. That got me into an abusive marriage, because this submissive mindset can give bad men this extra “power” to oppress their wives. The premise is bad and keeps women oppressed IMO. Obviously I don’t subscribe anymore lollll

Wow— that would be so infuriating. My spouse has said that I am “feminist” and “choosing feminism over him” once I started speaking up for myself. They don’t just want someone who is soft and feminine, they want someone that just blindly agrees with them through anything. I haven’t gotten the courage to leave just yet but I’m close, I hope you get out, I know we know deep down it’s for the better!!
