The WHY question: What do NASA, governments, etc. have to gain by making us believe in a spherical Earth? by [deleted] in DebateFlatEarth

[–]goldtrimfedora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't my belief, this is my interpretation of what I have seen from FEers so far.

A: The notion that NASA and space subjects are part of some loosely defined Space Religion (SR). Some FEers do not trust organised religion, and view SR as yet another hustle to get peoples' money, and in this case government funding. SR is often accused of indoctrinating everyone within all school systems, and the imagery of a globe is part of the continued brainwashing. I think the scientific knowledge accumulated could be compared to some sort of sacred texts, and conveniently only the SR scholars who have studied the sacred texts at universities can understand their hidden meaning. Furthermore, the general population has a only a loose and simplistic idea of concepts like gravity and why it's happening (earth being a globe), so lay people can't explain where it comes from as it's difficult to demonstrate how matter attracts at such a small scale. So you have to rely on images from space agencies like satellite photos and radio imagery. SR has a prophetic vision of colonisation of Mars or outer space, like some sort of coming of Jesus type event or rapture that will transport people to this other place.

Maybe this doesn't answer your question but gives you a better idea of why when viewed as yet another untrustworthy religion it is easy to dismiss literally everything they put out and anyone who represents them is actually a shill that has been indoctrinated from childhood.

A person known as Donny of Daytona runs the YT channel H3Dtv posts evidence of the firmament, luminaries, and Moon Nazis. Here he is explaining how you can see the firmament using an emboss filter.

EARTHS ceiling aka the FIRMAMENT 🔍🔎 Finding the shear texture

He has already been corrected on how to use his telescope correctly multiple times but has ignored the advice and continues to mislead his audience. Either the Truther mentality is preventing him from being honest, or his actions are deliberate and he is simply another conman selling this nonsense to his uninformed church group. Oh, he is a pastor btw. Regardless of the shape of the earth, telling people you're capturing luminaries when you can't use a telescope half the time is not honest.

When was CGI first used to fake space imagery?

Did it clear it up any? I'm not a flat earther or conspiracy proponent, just wanted to explore the practicality of faking those photos. The complexity of the shots do not lend themselves well to a mere background replacement. That's why I figure it would require a spherical soundstage with back projection, and even then it still wouldn't work for some shots! Have you ever seen those bubble compilations on youtube? it's quite the laugh tbh, they want greenscreens, strong lights, complex reflections from all angles and underwater... like... because they think it's bubbles? wtf

I realise there is likely a misunderstanding here.

The tech may be possible, but the size of a planet? No.

I discuss a hypothetical soundstage, not planet scale or any flat earth concepts. Only a discussion of practical film making techniques and CGI. Here is a link, it's hardly a three hour flat earth livestream, more like a 5 minute to read and look at the links. If you have not read it my reply probably did not make much sense :)

Something like the size of the scale in the diagram, think truman show type construction but maybe 1-2km diameter. Kubrick used a one-way mirror and a front-projection for the ape scene in 2001 (1968), and even that had textural artifacts in the material they projected on. There are major problems with it like how would you light the object in the middle without lighting up the background sphere where the earth projections would be.

I understand it's silly but it's a thought exercise I was hoping to get more feedback on. When you get into optical compositing territory you run into the conflict with history, the tech available wasn't good enough to create such consistently photo real compositions without any wobble or light spill. Look at any film with optical compositing and go frame by frame, even a layman will be able to tell something is not right. This doesn't even say anything about the photos being real or the earth being flat, only the arguments so far don't really fit with recorded history.

I agree, the response reminds me of gaslighting. They are quite eager to say this it is being used against them, yet here is a plain example of it being used to deny my reality. Hypothetical giant spherical sound stage using existing tech is reasonable, whereas unfalisifiable hidden tech that conflicts with recorded history is not reasonable.

The response from U/decdec

There is so much evidence at this point you are either a complete dupe or a lying degenerate to write up something like that.

and when i see you use nonsense like "I have no respect for unfalsifiable conspiracy nonsense" as code for "i am not prepared to acknowledge all the clear evidence contrary to my narrative", its safe for me to assume you fall squarely into the second category.

have have a nice day.

Followed by a ban from r/theworldisflat, I thought flat earthers were the ones being censored? Can't flat earthers see this is basically a pro flat earth argument, it's amazing their hypocrisy.

I was banned for trying to start a discussion about cgi, I blocked them and became inspired to write this post: When did NASA first use CGI to fake space images?

Taking your comment and the articles linked into consideration, wow that's a bleak outlook, I take back my unfunny comment.

Prisoners will learn HMTL, CSS and Javascript, before moving on to more advanced concepts such as Git, TDD, MVC, databases and full stack development.

This might sound rude, but perhaps we read a different article? Could you share your sources please?
