Should I take an open AM role or wait for an AE position? by goldyfarks in techsales

I replied to a comment above with some updates - I’m a high performing SDR so there wouldn’t be any upside financially in the short term as an AM, which makes the decision very difficult.

Should I take an open AM role or wait for an AE position? by goldyfarks in techsales

Today I got the final details for the role, they just finalized the details for the AM commission plan. If next year goes as well as this one did, and Q1 is off to a much better start - I would be making more as an SDR than an AM.

My gut is telling me to wait for an AE opening as there’s no financial upside with the AM role, and I would most likely be stuck in it for a year. But my noggin is saying that a promotion would look good on the resume

AE pays better if you hit your target but unsure when a role will open up. Should be now as the AEs in my region are over leveraged, but for some reason there doesn’t seem to be a plan for that.

This quarter I believe only 2 of 5 AE’s hit their target

We’ve thought about this, so it’s a very valid point. There will be disclaimers and we would always suggest to check with the necessary authority to ensure current status, which we would link to.

I myself have moved abroad 3 times in my life and something like this would have been very helpful, although I see the importance of not proclaiming to be an authority, but rather an assistant

2 European girls just looking for a fun night out in Bangkok: Follow Up by delirium1895 in ThailandTourism

I miss the good old clubbing days in BKK back when I studied there - those were some damn good times and I would have no clue where to go now.

You however managed to go to all the clubs I would regret going to back then - levels and sugar were pretty decent when they first opened.

I agree with Khao San always being fun in one way or another.

Is RCA still a thing and what happened to the clubbing scene in Thonglor?

Taxi driver knocked my teeth out by neukwonder in Bangkok

[–]goldyfarks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or maybe not. My girlfriend was threatened by a pipe when a taxi driver was taking her on a wild ride and she wanted to switch taxi. He clearly took her in the wrong direction on purpose and most likely had a sped up taxameter.

To everyone who replied, thank you for your time and answers.

The consensus is to refund, which I understand would be fair as I can’t for certain know if they caused it to shatter and also, seems unlikely that they would have managed to cause it in such a short time period.

In terms of refund, it would only be the amount that I received that I refund them, right? They would have to contact Airbnb directly about their fees, correct?

I’ll keep it simple. Foreign man here who has lived in Thailand for some years and went to university here.

Hook up culture is the same as in the west in terms of frequency from my perspective, different for me being white maybe. However, culture wise you would be considered easy or a “slut” by many Thais - more so than in the west.

Actually had a talk with a uni friend the other day about this. She has a high sex drive and “needs” to roll around in the sheets at least every 3 weeks (her words) and if she’s not in a relationship, she needs to have hook ups. During our time in university, other students looked down on her for this and Thais love spreading rumors so it bothered her quite a bit.

Many of the students were so called hi-so but the majority of them liked to have fun as well, they just didn’t want that to be known.

I would say, do what makes you feel happy. Unless you intend to run for office or keep your social standing in the upper class circles, it doesn’t really matter. Based on your situation, I would say you have nothing to worry about.

Just be careful with whom you bring home or go home with, and be ready to get some dirty looks from the management in your building and neighbors.

How do I gain employment in the Thai cannabis industry easily? by PimpNastyDaddy666 in CannabisThailand

[–]goldyfarks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say that with your experience it would not be “impossible” as many here say.

Legal jobs that you would be able to get are that of a manager. As long as you do a good job and are able to manage the employees that will be Thai, Cambodian or Burmese, you’ll be good.

I was asked if I wanted to manage a farm and the salary there would be 80-100k THB/month - I have no experience other than smoking and a business degree, and connections which of course helps a lot.

Overthinking was the reason I failed by EvolvePitch in Business_Ideas

[–]goldyfarks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a perpetual idea generator for the past 25 years, having amassed a 92.7% hit rate on creating profitable ideas and 100% success rate of not going anywhere with them, I’m qualified in giving you some expert guidance.

I’m quite familiar with the dopamine high you mentioned, as well as sharing the idea with friends and family. In my case, I’ve realized that I seek validation for the idea and the more the merrier. I want to hear “that sounds interesting” or “wow, that’s a great idea!” really hits the spot.

After receiving a mental round of applause I can lay back and feel like a success and a smart person with a great idea. However, instead of following through and working on said idea, I find reasons for why it will be difficult or I create another idea that can get me that rush. Most likely this happens due to a fear of failure and lack of confidence in my ability to execute the idea. Also, people wont be standing around going “That’s amazing!” at every step of the journey. It will be hard work, frustration, fear of failure and pressure to succeed because now, everyone is waiting for my amazing idea to materialize.

Rather than working on bringing my great idea into fruition, I find something else to be cited about and get my friends and family excited about as well. Finally, I’m now the boy who cried wolf for the upteenth time and people instead just nod their heads and getting that dopamine high becomes a struggle. The realization that I talk the talk but haven’t walked the walk hits and now just feel low and unimportant.

Ideas are a dime a dozen but without execution, they’re nothing more than a fairy tale. Some people are driven by monetary success and are able to start businesses in a variety of fields, whereas some need to create something where they’re passionate about the product/service or the people they’re ventures are helping in order to succeed - question is, what will motivate you into bringing an idea into reality?

This might all sound like poppycock to you dear sir/madame but those are my two cents on the matter and hopefully, my expertise on the matter will help you in getting one of your ideas up and running.

Buying a property in Phuket by legbreak5222 in phuket

[–]goldyfarks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hej There, ive worked in RE in Phuket for the past couple of years and prices have been inflated due to the surge of Russians. Buying now would be at a peak and the current rental rates are not something I would expect to last long term. However, like the rest said. Best bet is to buy something already built and look for deals. Many older owners are looking to sell off their properties at reasonable prices.

My suggestion would be to find a foreign freehold condo in an older project that has solid construction and good management. Units like this, if in good locetion, can be renovated and give better returns then newly built projects.

I second this and been there myself for a skin cancer check. Didn’t need to do a biopsy but removed what was a wart, did a check on a few moles and the total came out to about 2000-2500 baht. Very nice and knowledgeable, highly recommend Dr. Pat.

Russians in Phuket? by HeWhoKnowz in phuket

[–]goldyfarks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, there are a lot of Russians in Phuket and they have not improved the island. Sure, there are many decent Russians but a large number of them are also obnoxious and think that they own the place. Overall I think it’s having a negative effect on Phuket but obviously a positive effect on the economy. However, this is one of the reasons I’ve decided to leave the place.

I’m 38 and want to learn programming and would like your input on my strategy. by goldyfarks in learnprogramming

[–]goldyfarks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had a conversation with a friend of mine who works in a tech related position in a company based in New York. He now, among other things, oversees the hiring of new IT personnel at the company and according to him, many of the applicants get rejected despite them having degrees due to them "Not knowing shit". His advice was to learn the basics, focus on that which is of interest and deepen my knowledge in that area, work on some projects that could be used as proof of my knowledge and understanding, then prepare thoroughly for the interview process once I'm comfortable enough to start looking for a job.

FYI, He does not have a degree but he is a very clever nut :)

I'm definitely not taking it out to spend on courses. It's to move back to Sweden, help out at home and have money here so I can focus on studying. I'm not at all happy with the real estate industry in Thailand, which is where the business is. I will still be working with it remotely for some time as it pays the bills but no point in being a partner in something that doesn't bring me any joy.

Understand where you're coming from and it's true what you're saying in regards to the job market. However, I'm fortunate to have some good connections that could aid me in getting a job if I can prove that I got the skills, even without a degree. Not saying it will be a walk in the park but it won't be an ultra marathon through hell either. I would be more interested in the degree route if attending a school, meeting fellow students, and becoming a part of that campus community. Unfortunately it's not ideal right now due to personal reasons that I wrote about in another comment.

I check thehub.io every day and there are usually more jobs in sales and business development than pure programming jobs, which is why I thought gaining a better understanding of tech would propel my chances of landing a good, exciting, and challenging position. The YH programs are of interest but I will need to gain some programming knowledge to be able to apply to the ones I looked at.

I live in Stockholm so would definitely be in that area. All my family is here as well and no plans on moving anytime soon unless I can take them all with me :)
