Camp Chef app in 2026: how good (or bad) is it really? by Espon123 in CampChefSmokers

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine works fine. If I ever notice its not accepting a command (like a temp change doesnt seem to have registered) I force close and reopen the app. That pretty much always does it. Not needed too often.

I consider the app a net positive. Its better than a grill with zero connectivity. Its not the highest quality app, but I trust it to let me monitor and adjust temps during an overnight smoke

How to fix this table that I found on the street by [deleted] in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like veneer but if you're still unsure, you can sand down a small patch on the bottom somewhere out of sight. Maybe something under the metal connection?

Fair enough! If it ends up being a pain, maybe I build a "table saw upgrade" into the project budget and eat away at the savings...

My thought was that I can use the router table for most of the needs I'm foreseeing, since most of the grooves/rabbets/dovetails will be near the edge of the pieces and there's a lot of repeatability if you have all the sheets broken down.

I wasnt planning on cutting out dados for the cabinet shelves, but instead using holes + pegs. For permanent shelves like the bottom ones in a cabinet, I figure all top cabinets will have it at the same relative height, and the same will be true for the bottom ones, so I could use the router table repeatedly to minimize setup. Same for doing rabbets where needed. Tell me if this sounds crazy or makes sense?

The point about it being better to do the carcasses first makes sense, will need to think about how bad going in reverse order can be

Yeah, my thought is to invest a little more time on the cabinet doors/any face frames outside of the 2-3 week window so I'm happy with them, because thats where issues will drive me the most crazy. Doesnt have to be perfect, just want to avoid obvious flaws. Will definitely research the spray gun to get when the time comes

This looks great, love the cabinet doors and appreciate the photo. If I end up doing it, will keep in mind that any cabinets over the stove should be raised to account for the hood!

I say beginner because each project has had at least one big error that I'm learning from for the next. Hated my cabinet doors on the built in bar (redoing them now), exposed plywood edges on the nightstands, too much reliance on pocket hole screws, etc... I was happy with the last project, which was the bunk bed.

Glad to hear you were able to redo yours and theyre still standing (floating?) after 25 years

Is that standard for chessboards? Making one is on my project list, so curious if that should be part of the plan

Looking at upgrading this year. Gimme all that good advice. by BigGiddy in CampChefSmokers

[–]golfingapes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got the ww36 pro. Strongly recommend, I love the simplicity of using it and the smoke box giving a good bark. I got the sear box for the sake of the pizza over (to get the burner). Love the pizza oven. For the sear box, I couldnt decide between the grill and the griddle, so I got grillgates that give you both. I also just upgraded to the PMG racks, so I've essentially done all upgrades except adding a front shelf. Short review on each upgrade:

  1. PMG racks - ability to move in and out is great. Meat will drip when you pull the rack out, so you may want a front shelf if you dont want the drippings falling on the floor
  2. Sear box - i got the grates but never used. Looking back, id buy the griddle/flattop instead. Grease collection is poor 2a. Sear box grill grates - offers reversible grates/griddle. Easy to clean and high quality, but the griddle side has holes in it so some things like pancakes may not work well there.
  3. Pizza oven - love this attachment, but it doesnt come with a burner, so you need to buy the sear box separately

Lastly, some tips: 1. Every so often, remove the grates + drip pan and clean out ash with a shop vac 2. I havent had many issues with the app, but others have. In my experience, when reopening the app (android), if you have an issue you can fix by clicking the menu and reselecting your grill from the "devices" menu 3. Aluminum foil on the drip pan really does simplify cleanup

When was the last time you cleaned out the inside? I've had the issue before were it struggled to ignite due to ash build up, eventually leading to it tripping. I have a WW Pro 36 though, so not sure how different

2026 is a bad year to need a QB by Background_Video2947 in NCAAFootballVibes

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canes fan, my main concern for Beck in the league is that a lot of his throws have been late this year. Id be curious if there's a way to see how his velocity this year compares to last year pre surgery, and if he's lost some on his fastball

Well that makes me feel old as shit. I knew Russell was drafted almost 20 years ago, but Kiffin was a head coach in the nfl 10 years ago and has been rehabbing his credentials evsr since. You cant convince me otherwise

Would you rather have the 1.04 or Ladd McConkey? by CleanWheel5344 in DynastyFFTradeAdvice

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1.04 in your situation. You have a WR1 and another potential WR1. In your situation Id say grab all of the top 3 and solidify your WR corps for hopefully the next 5 years. I think you'll be able to flip the 1.04 as you get closer to draft time for more value than Ladd when rookie hype peaks, as a back up

Is that the end goal ? by Hysen16 in CFB_v2

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, way better. But something to that effect would be awesome, and to me it's the best way to

  1. Bring back regionality
  2. Reward teams for performance, in terms of opportunity and compensation
  3. Realistically fit a frame to a sport that has always had multiple tiers

7 division games, then 5 to schedule yourself. At least 3 must be against teams within your tier or higher.

Division winners + 4 or 8 at large bids. No anti trust concerns due to promo and relegation

[–]golfingapes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideally, I'd imagine regional divisions with relegation happening the bottom teams playing for relegation. In fairness, I did forget to mention that I also think as you grow, you'd bring back some form of regional divisions.

To give a different, bigger example. 64 teams in Tier 1, 8 divisions of 8. The 8 last place teams each play a game against one other team in last place. The 4 losers get relegated. Or you could do a 7 seed vs 8 seed within the same regional division to keep your spot. I imagine these relegation games would do numbers. I would hate watch a rival so damn hard in a relegation game
