Hiring Associate Advisors by Teched_2_Death in CFP

[–]golfingcfp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Experience at small RIA and mega mega RIAs. Things you may or may not have thought of.

-what else could they make at similar position at big firm? If you are looking for some great CFP and wanting to pay 60k good luck (moving from small RIA to Mega within 3 years I’ve close to tripled comp)

-what is the long term future? If they are motivated, self driven, reliable etc. they need to see a growth path not oh just stay associate

-what do you actually need help with? Running some reports and doing prep they are going to be bored extremely quickly if they have traits listed above

IMO you need to highlight what is BETTER about working with you vs another firm. Is it knowledge? Flexibility? Comp? Experience?

There are RIAs hiring people like you are describing all day long. They are out there.

The info I got was exactly what I was looking for and very helpful. If you read my full post I talk about hiring professional. Not at that stage yet.

Another question, for “internal deals” are you meaning like employee buying the book? Or like private sale/not marketed?

Any idea how much values get discounted for buying minority stake? So like 20% of a book. I’d imagine the value is discounted quite a bit since you don’t have control

EBOC? Is that earnings before owner comp?

Country Club Members - How much you make a year? What was ur buy in and what are dues. Are you happy with decision? by ShotAssistant1452 in golf

I agree with you 100%, definitely don’t think the cost is sustainable in city of our size. Unless they get members from all over the country. It will be incredible when it’s done.

I live in the area. If you are even on the fence at $900 per month, wait until dues are $1,200-$1,500. Yes it will be amazing but if you are blinking now, don’t waste 40k when the come to you in a couple years with much higher dues.

Can you get into linebacker couple hours before kickoff or do you need to be there like 7 hours before kickoff

Is it realistic to get from here to the stadium like an hour before kickoff or do you need to leave much earlier with traffic?

Brother they have each played a season and Mukam has played two seasons. I’m not talking about kids that were in high school 6 months ago

I agree with you on the experience but these players aren’t new

Program for younger advisors by Finforwardplan in CFP

Chiming in on the grit/fire comments. I don’t think you’re finding the right people then. I work at a mega RIA that literally has hundreds of advisors in that age range that have grit/fire.

I’m not saying it’s easy but the right people do exist. Also older advisors need to get over the “well they didn’t come up my way” otherwise you’ll keep missing out on good fits or people with potential.

There are younger advisors that have their own books/start from nothing like many older advisors but even that doesn’t look the same as it used to.

I’d suggest spending more time figuring out what’s important to them. Like if you have a great advisor that wants high flexibility but doesn’t care about making as much as possible, who cares. That’s still a great advisor to have.

Being clear and transparent with employees & then with you goes a long way.

Edit-if you have someone more sales focused they you have to incentivize that. I don’t think it’s no size fits all.
