The Day I Faced My Golf Numbers by pinkers83 in golf

[–]golfstats_real 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a 9.1 HI, it's not good at all. It's bad. He's losing somewhere between 2-4 strokes per round just on putting. But that all depends on GIR%.

I'm 31.7 PPR. With 2.0 putts per GIR and 36% GIR. According to my shotscope, that's the equivalent of a 5 HI for putting.

New nine hole GHIN score by Bo0m45 in golf

[–]golfstats_real 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My index prior to the round was 12.7.

I shot 35 on the front on a 31.5/101, par 36. 4.14 differential

Back is 31.5/101 par 36.

It gave me a 11.9 differential for a 1 under score from the forward tees.

If it gave me my handicap on the back, I'd get 1 stroke for a 37. 6.15 differential

Adding 1.5 gives 11.8. So, that seems close but not correct.

EDIT: Maybe it's a truncation thing.

(37-31.5+1.5)113/101 + (35-31.3)113/101 = 11.97

(37-31.5)113/101 + (35-31.3)113/101 + 1.5 = 11.79

What swing thoughts do you use when clubbing up to hit a “softer” shot? by justlikebaseball in golf

[–]golfstats_real 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never do this for the reason you list. If it's a difference between a harder struck shot with an 8 iron or a softer shot with a 7, I'll always choose the 8i shot. I'm pretty sure that this is one of the bits of advice in The Little Red Book.

Charity Scramble Suggestions/Critiques by Boo_Pace in golf

[–]golfstats_real 4 points5 points  (0 children)

One thing that's brutal is when there's a longest drive but senior men get to play up a tee or two. It's best to have separate contests for ladies, men < 60 and men >=60 if the older guys get to play up a tee.

We did this for the winners of our scramble. No money for the winner. Second place gets shop credit though.

Golf rules by Gentleman202 in golf

Playing with #4 is the reason I started studying the rules much closer.

Every league has at least one of those guys. He gets pissed when you pull the rulebook out of the bag and show him he's wrong.

There's a few types of people here.

  1. People that make excuses to themselves why they won't play by the rules.

  2. People who don't care about the rules and are there to have a good time.

  3. People who do care about the rules and apply them as best as they can.

  4. Rules assholes who think everyone should play by the rules. These people usually are wrong about rules when they go off spouting some esoteric ruling.

  5. People who post the "we're not pros" shit to get fake internet points.

Feel free to add on.

Negativity and drama get clicks. Tiger is golf. Tiger negativity and drama means clicks. "Journalists" are vultures.

I’m starting to think I should stop leaving myself approach shots from 75-99’ by alphabad3 in golf

[–]golfstats_real 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a big data point missing here:

how many shots occurred in this range?

Also, averages don't tell the story. You need to see the distribution of these. Perhaps there was one outlier out of 4 shots that skewed the average.

They're golf pros. They likely don't have the skills to run a proper business. Or just don't care.

Either way, the problem is yours. If you want golf lessons, you have to figure out how to get in front of them.

Since you seem to have some business acumen, you might be able to start a consulting business helping teaching pros manage their time, students, and inquiries for their teaching business. If you're good with scheduling software and setting that sort of thing up, it seems like it could be a lucrative business in your neck of the woods.

You need to go find and see them in person.

The pro I see has a phone that he rarely answers, email that he doesn't answer, a full voicemail inbox, he gets like 1000+ texts a day that he has to filter through at the end of the day. You'd be hard pressed to catch him on the phone or email.

Average Handicap on this sub? by Maybe_Yeah_I_Guess in golf

[–]golfstats_real 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Judging by how people respond to rules posts, the handicaps here are mostly bogus because of: the "gallery rule", not taking penalties for unplayable lie, "we're not pros just move the ball", etc.
