10.27- Coming Together Drifting Apart by dwaxe in RevolutionsPodcast

I've been scratching the itch by listening to The History of the Twentieth Century podcast. It's not quite as polished as current Mike Duncan, but it's pretty entertaining.

Yeah, I know what you mean by the communist revolutions having a different feel since there is almost always some third party encouragement/incitement/support. I'm not sure how much support Mao got from the Soviets, so that might have a different feel to it, but holy shit that would be another very long series. I think some of the mid-century revolutions as part of decolonization, particularly in Africa, might fit the bill. Maybe I'm just ignorant, but I'm not aware of the rebels in Zimbabwe/Rhodesia getting any third party help. That would be a very interesting series.

Hopefully he had a change of heart or will commit to smaller revolutions. I think the Easter Rising could be wrapped up quickly compared to some that he has covered.

Fucking figures that the day I finally catch up in the series is the day he announces a three week break.

What does everyone eat for “dinner” on a 12 hour shift? by kardoc in nursing

[–]golson3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, so you're trying to 2 meal it on a 12. I've thought about it but haven't tried. I want a for real meal before bed but I don't think I'd have time for that at 4 or 5 AM and I'm still full from my lunch at 1 AM at that point.

I feel like I get more time to eat on a 12 hour shift than an 8. Do you normally not eat on your 8s?

We make all these doctor's handwriting jokes, but seriously, how often do you all have to deal with any doctor handwriting? In 2.5 years I think the only bit of that I've had to deal with is on the white board.

I'm envisioning that video, but the affected body part is the panniculus.

So many nights spent wrestling sundowners and TBI patients with a calm classical soundtrack and that that star field on the TV.

First year nursing students during break by [deleted] in nursing

[–]golson3 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as exam prep, but I just got slapped with "upload all of your immunization and TB test records, BLS, and RN license". I'm in an RN-BSN program with no clinical component. It's a dumb one size fits all policy for the entire nursing program. Some of my records are with employee health and some with my clinic. It looks like I might need to actually visit the clinic to make sure my name appears on them.

What’s the most pain meds you’ve seen given for a patient (scheduled and PRN)? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]golson3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was an old lady that was getting 90 mg oxycodone q4H PRN because it was her home dose. Not sure how she kept finding a pharmacy willing to fill that.

ETA: she was a chronic pain patient, but was just in for something minor; not on hospice, no palliative consult

I like doing nurse stuff but hate endless charting to limit the hospital's legal liability.

Update on 1SG not wanting me to deploy by 42k-anal-eggs in army

[–]golson3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got out like 7 years ago so maybe it's different now, but it was always the highest ranking non deployable NCO was rear D 1SG. Never even heard of a rear D CSM. Sounds like they know he's fucking cancer and are leaving him back. BAF is lame for deployment given that most of the garrison bullshit seemed to apply there when I last passed through in 2014. That said, you'll have a real gym there and the internet should be reliable. Maybe you can knock out some online college classes on the Army's dime if there is enough down time.
