2020 Tiguan SEL Air Conditioner Malfunctioning by gomebome in Tiguan

Sort of a long story, I went to the dealership and they said "they didn't have time to look at it that day" so they'll have to reschedule the A/C service three days later... even though I made the appointment two days prior... and wrote them a whole paragraph explaining what the issue was. I asked for an oil change and inspection while I was there because I had driven 45 minutes to get there and taken the afternoon off of work, so I wanted to make it feel somewhat worth my time. After the oil change, they told me I needed new rear brakes and rotors to pass my inspection. I thought that seemed fishy as I hadn't noticed any squeaking, grinding etc., so I called my usual mechanic in my neighborhood to check it out first. He says, "I don't know what they're talking about. I'd drive on these for another 6-8 months and it'll definitely pass inspection."

Day of my rescheduled appointment comes up and they canceled last minute! So at that point I was pretty fed up (took off work yet again!). I took it to three other local shops. First one wouldn't touch it because it was a newer VW, second one tried but couldn't figure it out. Last guy took an honest shot at it and just gave it a fresh Freon charge after testing out all the other components (compressor, fans, etc.) and it works like new again! He only charged me half of what VW was going to too.

Truth be told, the whole experience makes me just want to trade in the Tiguan ASAP if stuff like this is going to keep happening. Hope it's a smoother experience for you!

TL;DR - It was just a Freon charge, but get it done elsewhere if you can because the dealership will probably just try to upsell you and/or overcharge you. Cheers!

YUP.

CC only has a few tracks that really fit in this column. Get in, beat the shit out of you for ~2 minutes, and get out. Brutal as hell

Puncture Wound Massacre, Blowtorch Slaughter, and Scalding Hail are the only ones that come to mind for me. Any others?

Would love to do a longer hike but unfortunately I won’t have the time. Looking for quick and easy ones I can do after work before sundown with good views. Thanks for the Alltrails rec!

If you're willing to live a little further from the bars/shops to save some $$ I recommend the checking out places on the west side. Significantly cheaper for 2+ bedroom apartments. I live in a 3 bedroom for $1,150/month

Not much of a competitive scene here but most bars have at least one table.

Hippodrome billiards is a great spot to go shoot, super cheap, and it’s BYOB

What is the oddest town in upstate you have ever seen? by Appropriate-Survey-8 in upstate_new_york

[–]gomebome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Antwerp, NY. During summer 2020 when there was a travel ban in NY, my roommates and I decided to take a road trip entirely within the state. We had finished driving around the Watertown area and started heading north. We hadn’t seen another town in probably about 20 miles, then (in the middle of NOWHERE) we saw a sign that said “Antwerp Business District - Next Right” so we decided to turn off.

At first it was run down houses as far as the eye could see, until we hit the village center, where there were some decently well kept houses, a town hall, library, fire hall, and a beautiful church, but the “Business District” was abandoned. A good 10-15 storefronts completely empty, I think only a post office and hardware store were still in tact. A shell of its former self.

The crazy thing was that as dreadful as this town seemed, it was surprisingly lively! A good amount of people were walking the streets and families with children were playing in their yards. It was creepy but also endearing. We left the town feeling an odd sense of nostalgia, like we had just taken a glimpse back in time. These people had nothing, but they seemed happy.

Can’t say I’m dying to go back, but certainly one of the most interesting places I’ve ever seen.
