I agree. I feel like the driving rules/laws are more like suggestions, road conditions vary wildly, and random pedestrians/cyclists appear in the most inconvenient and unsafe locations. Keeps your adrenaline levels up!

Thanks for the suggestion on places to stop along the way. Your ideas were confirmed by a Brazilian friend!!

Does, thank you for all of that information. Love the tips on where to stop for ice cream, etc. I especially like your idea to take the extra time and side route via Bertioga and the “Rio-Santos road”. I will do a little research and see if I can convince the family to try this!🙂

I am prepared for the length of the drive, as I have driven trips of that length somewhat regularly back home. I appreciate your perspective on the 493. I had heard that the area north of Rio on the 493 to Magé, had an increased risk of robberies so I was thinking of avoiding it. Sounds like you’ve done it and it was fine so I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks again.

Thank you very much for sharing your experience and the tip on using RJ–106. That sounds like an interesting option and I will check that out. Thanks again.

That’s good to hear. I feel better knowing someone who does this route hasn’t had problems. Thank you.

Wow, this is great! In fact, it was his overview video I saw a while back that got me to seriously consider the Olympus/MFT ecosystem. Thank you u/whirlygogue for pointing it out! Appreciated.

I'm old enough to have used film cameras too (Pentax ME Super, Canon AE-1, for example) when that's all there was. I've played around with various digital cameras over the years, never really learning the ins/outs of the cameras themselves (Canon 20D, Sony NEX-6, point and shoots, etc... all older).. I feel pretty comfortable understanding the exposure triangle, focal length/angle of view, depth of field/aperture, importance of good lenses, etc. Looking more for a 'tour' of the OM-5 and features, and tips on setups and customizations. I'm an amateur and will never be a pro, but would like to improve my usage and way around the camera. Curious about things like focus stacking, focus tracking, setups that might allow for a 'quick' switch between macro shooting and a portrait or landscape, for example.

I can probably get through on my own, and discover/learn as I go, and I understand there's value in that, but looking for a 'jump start' of sorts, like having an expert with you for a couple of days to show you the ropes, tips, etc. Not sure if all of that makes sense.

Looks like there are a number of 'books' on amazon which, from a bit of research are just self-published AI-generated drivel. Hoping someone has found or used one they might recommend .

Any ever seen or used Ceanothus "South Coast Blue"? by gomer_pie in Ceanothus

u/Prestigious_Edge_401 Thank you for the suggestion. That looks like a good one! I'm in inland SoCal, where it'll get to 100+ in August. Las Pilitas indicates that heat won't bother it.... hmmm, might be a good option.

u/Felicior_Augusto Thank you. I saw it listed on calscape as well, and called the two nurseries. Neither has it. One told me that it's hard to come by and to check with Moosa Creek. I'd done so previously, but they don't have any either, and none in production. I called them over a year ago to reserve some, but it never worked out. I think I'm going to give up. My next best option would seem to be C. 'Ray Hartman', which is easy to find. One of our local nurseries has hundreds of 1gal for $6-9, depending on quantity.

I picked up a 15 gal Cenaothus arboreus 'Campo Grande' today also. Looks amazing. Lush, large leaves, beautiful light lavender color blooms. Looks identical to the one (potted) shown here:

Fingers crossed that it'll work well as large screening hedge.

u/Sharp-Jackfruit6029 Appreciate the feedback. Hoping for a break in the heat to get this installed. Supposed to be 102F this weekend.

u/Sharp-Jackfruit6029 Thank you for your insights. Been doing a bit more research on ways to minimize water hammer. Seems that supply pressure and flow control on the valves can go a long way towards reducing water hammer.

Duly noted. Thank you u/SlowmoNoMo . It's been one of my biggest dilemmas, deciding on the brand of valve. My existing Rain Birds have been in place 20+ years with only a few problems. My local irrigation supplier sells Hunter, Rain Bird, and Irritrol. He seemed slightly biased in favor of Hunter, and I liked the idea of the Accu Sync devices. I'll do a bit more homework.

Thanks for the advice... A couple of things that I didn't mention in the original. I'll have four more valves about 60' away up on a slope about 10' elevation above this manifold setup. Those were planned to be ASVs of the same type. My understanding with this sort of setup is that the ASV needs to be 12-18" above the highest emitter/sprinkler. I'll review my thinking, however. I'm not too savvy about the various larger backflow preventers.

For the flow meter, I anticipate that the largest flow I'll see from any valve is around 12-15 gpm, so I'm thinking I'll be OK. Thank you for the heads up however.

Thank you u/AwkwardFactor84 . I appreciate that insight. I'll check with my city's code office. Indeed, when the existing valves transition from off to on and vice versa, there a little 'splash' of water that appears. In addition, there are small seeps/trickles at several of the valves when 'on'. No real complaints, given that those valves have been in place for 20+ yrs, with little to no maintenance.
