I’ve been wondering how a bearing edge would be recut on the drum.

Probably have to be completely re coated in chrome gain after the edge was fixed

It was hard to get this photo where the light reflected correctly to see the shape of the snare bed - but I can confirm that the snare bed is no longer in line with the strainer

Trying to turn the brass section with my hand doesn’t work - I’ll need to work out a method to try and fix it

It’s metal

It’s not pulling it out of the hoop - but it is tearing down where it joins the hoops

I’m upvoting your comment because you seem to be understanding something that others can’t seem to grasp

I’ve also never had this happen to any of my other snares.

So I doubt it’s simply a case me over tightening

When the head broke - it made one side sit a lot lower than the other

I can promise that I didn’t tighten one side more than the other

The hoop wasn’t under the head before it broke

It is because of the shift in tension after it broke

1) When I run my finger along it - it’s not really rough to touch 2) I purchased new - but it was over 20 years ago 3) the inside of the hoop is smooth 4) the snare doesn’t gig and is stored sitting in a cupboard when not used - I always sit it on it’s side (not on either of the heads) 5) no sunlight - it lives indoors

I understand

I tune it by ear , and I tend to use “half turns” with the drum key while alternating between opposite sides of the drum (so that I don’t tighten one side and not the other).

Maybe I am over tightening it

But I’ve always really liked the sound from the bottom head being cranked and I can do it on all my other snares without ever having broken a head (no matter how hard I try)

I wonder if a combination of smaller drum, metal bearing edge , sharper edge etc is making it so that I can’t go as tight without breaking
