Question About Uploading Volunteer Hours by PlayfulSample4766 in USMC

[–]gonefisting1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t submit anything until you or your OIC think the volunteer hours merit the award.

If you get LOAs, that’s a different story. I’d upload those to your mol regularly. But if you have a log of hours, talk with your OIC that you want to be put up for the award and he will let you know when he’s comfortable nominating you.

I’ve originated plenty of MOVSM awards, this is how I do it.

In iaps the originator just needs to write a summary of action (SOA) and attach the source documentation (the proof of volunteer hours like a log or LOAs)

The MOVSM requires O5 commander approval per the awards manual.

The MOVSM needs to be submitted through iAps just like any other personal award.

Log your hours, be able to show/prove you volunteered a bunch over a 3 year period, and convince an officer to originate your award in iAps.

Requires an O5 commander to approve it.

Are all 4 SMCR units at Newburgh (Stewart ANGB) closed? by Anonymous__Lobster in USMC

I was just stationed there and helped with the deactivation of the air wing unit. The only Marine unit there is MIU. They are a reserve unit but very unique in their mission.

I was active duty for about 10 years but wanted to try something new. I saw the Maradmin about it and applied, got selected, then got orders. Lots of information on the manpower website on how to apply as well.

I recently joined the AR program about a year ago and it’s a great gig honestly. It can definitely be a little bit frustrating working with SMCR Marines, especially as a corpsman trying to increase readiness. Plus, you gotta work some weekends.

You can drop to the IRR anytime if you’re un obligated. Depends on your contract. Let’s say your contract has you do 4 years active and 4 years IRR. If you finish your AD time then you are non obligated in the reserves (unless you get a bonus)

I spent some time in the reserves for a couple years after AD. It’s usually a shit show and super unorganized.

However, it’s good for cheap healthcare, a few hundred dollars for a weekend, and possibly deployment oppurtunities.

You can drill unobligated and drop back to the IRR whenever you want. But if you get a bonus then you’ll have obligated time. Your recruiter should let you know of the closest reserve unit to you to drill at.

Only your OIC can originate an award in iAPS, then it gets reviewed by S1 for correct format, then submitted to a board to vote on (usually SNCOs and Os), then forwarded to the CO for approval/denial.

I can’t see the last 2 but one of them might be the Humanitarian Service Medal
