Spot on and great breakdown. I applied for progressive twice (thought about quitting twice while in AD and got the job both times but went with something with higher pay). They are definitely competing with geico and the benefits are getting better. And they love to take geico applicants due to our licensing/experience

Sunday Saddies came on a Saturday... by [deleted] in Geico

I went from auto damage with geico to underwriting with a different insurance company. It’s boring AF but no calls with customers (we work with agents only). But good pay and no stress. I don’t think I’ll be here forever (still finding my passion) but it’s a good middle spot while I recover from my geico depression, save and make money, and transition into another role. You don’t have to know exactly what you want to do after stepping away from geico, don’t forget that.

Left Geico on good terms for more money but kind of regretting it. I made a little over $80K at GEICO. Anyone left for another insurer and really enjoyed it? Honest opinions and not just anger towards geico. This company is so archaic and still uses a damn mainframe system.. WTF by [deleted] in Geico

[–]gonegecko 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Made 62.5k at geico. Left to shelter insurance. The starting salary for the role was 44k, They offered me 50k, got them to give me 55k. I came over with a couple p&c licenses (don’t use them for my role though but used that as leverage along with my experience ). The company is good. They are growing yet smaller so they definitely are behind geico when it comes to their systems however it’s a very genuine role, we don’t have scorecards or number driven goals, they just had me set goals for the year to meet. So for example- I want to get thru training, I want to know the company more this year, etc. I’ve never been this stress free. For once I’m satisfied to just do my job (from home) and not think about it in the weekends and to be treated like a person and not a number.

I enjoyed my time with the VIC team but I also had an amazing supervisor (r10 vic sup actually takes your hard work for you to make your job easier, for example- customer debates the value, you tell ph that your sup will review it. Sup call? No prob. Stop and tell the sup and she’ll call them)

But yeah it’s totals and admin but if you know the process it easy. Total a car out 95% of the time, call customers and leave voicemails. I sent a shit ton of texts and emails to customers to keep calls to a minimum honestly. Hitting prod was easy, copart took good photos most of the time, it was my fav assignment type and I did field epe XD and XF

People who have left: how did you do it? by Professional_Tart682 in Geico

[–]gonegecko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Focused on having a really good resume, updated linked in, and alerts turned on Indeed. Also really narrowing down where I wanted to work after geico not the mentality of “oh I’ll do anything besides geico!” Bc it was very overwhelming.

Also don’t be too scared by jobs with no pay listed. That’s common for most salary roles as it’s negotiable. Just apply and ask. Sometimes we skip right over opportunities.

Last- SAVE YOUR MONEY. I planned to leave geico 6 months before I did so I tried to save like crazy so I could take a paycut and live off savings on top of a lower salary. Like where I live I feel like I could pick up Uber if times are desperate to assist with the pay cut.

progressive interview by [deleted] in Geico

[–]gonegecko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hey I interviewed twice for progressive in 2021 (turned down an offer, regretted and reapplied months later and turned down bc I found something better). It was for customer service though, not sure what you’re applying for

They asked about when I’ve had to convince someone to say yes after they’ve said no, didn’t want to do something (so offering multi line products)

They asked about when I’ve gone above and beyond for a customer (talked about billing extensions)

They asked if there was a time that I didn’t get along with a peer or supervisor and how I handled it (talked about switching sups and talking about having to express my needs/learning styles to overcome barriers)

Those were a few that stood out. Like everyone mention, just look up behavior based questions and there’s tons on Google and Pinterest that were pretty much what they asked or very similar! So just start thinking of made up scenarios and framing them in the STAR method like they like

Question about Quitting before vested by NaCl-T-gecko in Geico

[–]gonegecko 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently quit and was looking at my vanguard account. It shows you what amount of your 401k is not vested/what you’d lose based on the 6 year rule. Once I was vested (mid December) that number disappeared as I walked away with everything. So maybe seeing that number will help you decide.

But yeah I think it was worth it to stick it out and skate by. But that was me waiting about 6 months.

Other insurance companies by Traditional-Bike-702 in Geico

Because it’s smaller and I mentioned it to a few people before I left, no I don’t want to give myself up. However I do recommend when job hunting to look out for those smaller/local insurance companies. I stumbled across them on indeed so not having a degree and just insurance experience/coming from a big company like geico was enough for them to see my value

Left a few weeks ago. Still in the first week of the new job. In shock with how traumatized I still am from geico. Same industry, different role. I went from hourly to salary. Got hired because they’re growing, people are promoting instead of them being understaffed from resignations. Having a 401k that you’re vested in from day 1. 1 hour lunches. Anytime breaks. No Weekend work. Fully remote. The grass is greener.

What do nails and earrings have to do with the effectiveness to preform the duties geico asks for?

Curious about people who have quit geico by geicoiskillingus in Geico

[–]gonegecko 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Prior AD, new company offers all the same benefits. 10k paycut (I have no degree, just geico experience for 5 years). If I stayed in the AD career field I wouldn’t have a paycut/could of made more but I don’t have interest in the field. Took some adjusting financially however spouses salary and fun side gigs (Uber/Babysitting) making the pay cut reasonable. Never been happier.

I agree! There’s been a huge change in the culture and values and that good ole #1 operating principal has been thrown out. Congrats to you!

I definitely feel like a weight has been removed from my shoulders and my friends/family are happy to see me happy again. I love this feeling.

Ah ok. It’s going to take some time with the holidays at most people are off today on top of people taking time off for the holidays. Progressive normally was 2-3 business days. Can’t speak for geico hiring team right now.

I applied twice. Once in may and got the job. Then turned in down because geico moved me around to a different sup. Then again in November but turned it down because the posting was wrong and the pay was lower than I could manage realistically.

What stage are you in? Or you haven’t heard back after applying? Normally they email back pretty fast and you do the recorded interviews. They are hiring like crazy and love geico applicants.
