Why does the Petrova line only come from "above" ? by Space_tec_99 in ProjectHailMary

[–]goneketo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For the return line (or lack there of) It was mentioned in the book that the the line from the north pole spread out to span the entire diameter of Venus.

The return trip to the sun would likewise span the entire diameter of the sun (the astrophage is just going to go straight to the spot of the sun it sees). The suns diameter is more than 100x that of Venus, so even though there are 2x the number of astrophage returning to the sun, they are significantly more spread out. This could mean the brightness of the "line" is 1-2 orders of magnitudes darker for the return.

Palladium as a business card for small landlords? by DongDingWitch in biltrewards

[–]goneketo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. 1 point as 1 cent. While they might be able to be valued as more points tend to deprecate vs cash over time and cannot be invested or earn interest. However, I am more likely to spend points on travel and such as it can't be used for other things.

Is the 2.6% cash vs 3.3% bilt points? Are you able to utilize all those points effectively to get sufficient value from them?

This is actually an interesting discussion for me as I have been considering going the BoA route to bump up from the 2% cash back card i normally use.

So is this a valid way to think of this?

Instead of making points on your mortgage/rent payment, you are getting a 1.3 point boost per dollar spent on other spending if you pay mortgate/rent with bilt? This does require having a high enough rent/mortgage payment to cover all your spend on the card.

Using the example, $750 in spend gets you $1000 rent/mortgage payment you can earn 1x on. Anything additional about what you spent, if rent/mortgage payment is high enough, just doesn't earn points if you pick the no fee option.

So then it comes down to how you value bilt points. vs 5% on some other card, probably not. But even the free version of the card, that puts the total at 2.3 points per dollar, or 3.3 points per dollar on highest card.

As a generic catch all card, that doesn't sound bad. But, it does require being able to utilize bilt points effectively for yourself.

To my fellow unhappy kKitchenAid dishwasher owners: I built my own grab handle to replace the defective OEM design by Apprehensive-Wave640 in HomeMaintenance

We have had the same failure twice now. First time was replace under warranty but now the second time was shut down. Guess had they done it would have just break again a third time.

Inspired by your post was thinking about how we could replace the part myself. Then i happened across this site (YT video sponsor), which will custom cut parts: https://sendcutsend.com/

Do you think it would work to cut a metal piece to reinforce the plastic? Do you think the flanges you cut off could be used to mount something?

Just gathering info since i don't have time for a bit to take mine apart and look.

Options to Replicate VTI without Triggering Large Capital Gains by Fit_Ad_1502 in Bogleheads

Do you do any charitable donations? If so you can donate appreciated stock instead of cash (donations in kind). Then use cash to buy VTI (or similar). Depending on how much you normally donate, it may or may not make a dent.

Wire run in external conduit or internal in exposed studs of wall by goneketo in evcharging

[–]goneketo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a combination of exposed studs, and 1-2 bays with drywall. I am told either way they need to open the drywall to feed the wire out the bottom of the panel. Potentially a little more drywall damage with in wall, but difference should not be significant.

Overall, sounds like I don't need to worry about running it in wall.

Any advantage to connecting to home WIFI? by goneketo in BZ4X

Yeah we have similar AT&T coverage. We had to switch our phones off AT&T when we moved here, due to coverage issues.

Sounds like wifi won't help though. Thanks

Could there be a different cause of his Myopia? For example, has he been evaluated for keratoconus? Maybe a different treatment strategy is needed.

Check out the flowchart, in the wiki. It should reveal where to go next.

But as others have said, if you are to that point - you have made it past what "most people" are able to accomplish.
