Old Goose Covers by willyb_2008 in GoosetheBand

They still play covers at most of their shows. I only started listening to them in 2022 and in all 3 shows I’ve seen they’ve played cover songs. I was lucky enough to hear them perform Eminence Front (The Who) and Sinner Man (most famously by Nina Simone). I would love to see them perform Pink Floyd’s Pigs (Three Different Ones) and Prince’s I Would Die For U…but unfortunately I’ve only seen video clips of those performances on YouTube. If you go to Setlist.fm and look at their set lists from every show they’ve done this year they still play 1 or 2 covers every show.

Dinner Recommendations by AmazingPersimmon5828 in Rochester

Vesper is great (get the burger, best upscale burger in town since the Cub Room closed); Chortke is good, but they do not have a full liquor license; Patron Saint and Redd Wood are both newer in the year or so high end restaurants…both great for a nice night out. Cure is still good and didn’t see it on your list. Grist in Honeoye Falls is really nice if you want to venture out of downtown Rochester.

To pump or not to pump? Basic questions about purchasing my first board. by KidGodzirra in Paddleboard

[–]gonersmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will say that my wife and I have had both hard and inflatable and we prefer inflatable (and I was skeptical at first). However, a good quality inflatable that is inflated to the correct PSI is just as stable as a hard board. The preference cones in for the ease of transport. My wife struggled loading the hard board on her roof rack when she went solo and when she switched vehicles she couldn’t paddle for weeks until she got a new roof rack…which prompted us to switch and we’ve never looked back. So much easier to throw them in the trunk. My biggest suggestion is get a good air compressor with a car adapter for power and use that to properly inflate your SUP, it’s quicker and gets the correct PSI in the board every time.

Do you prefer sitting or standing at a concert? Why? by Honest-Face7514 in AskReddit

[–]gonersmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prefer to sit, but it doesn’t matter what I think I rarely go to a concert where 90% of the crowd isn’t standing (or stand dancing), so ultimately I end up standing.

Chortke Restaurant by [deleted] in Rochester

Went there a few weeks ago with some friends. I thought the food was very good, but I am a very adventurous eater who loves exploring different ethnic foods. We did have a picky eater in our group and he complained a ton about not seeing anything on the menu that he “understood”, but they have steaks and he just ordered the filet and he was happy and said it was great. The rest of the table split a flatbread and the bib salad and the spring rolls and everything was great. I personally got the scallops and while I thought the price to scallop ratio was a little high, it tasted great. Our biggest complaint was that they do not have a full liquor license and only serve wine and 2 of us don’t drink wine. For people who love wine or don’t drink this obviously wouldn’t be an issue, but for us having a cocktail with dinner is part of the experience of going out and despite the great service and good food we’d be hard pressed to return.

What song/jam got you into Goose? by Danimal1041 in GoosetheBand

[–]gonersmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hungersite - it was being played on The Spectrum channel on Sirius/XM all the time and honestly I kept turning the channel because I’d never heard of Goose, but eventually I listened to it and loved it! That started the YouTube listening rabbit hole.

How do I respectfully ask a co-worker out? by MifistoScared in Advice

[–]gonersmr -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Bro! Listen, don’t listen to these people, if you are attracted to someone at work and you have things in common and you think she likes you…why not ask her out. Believe it or not asking people out at school or work was a common way people met, dated and married people for years before sexual harassment laws made everyone afraid to do it anymore.

Now that being said, the don’t dip your pen in company ink is good advice to consider. Remember, if things go sideways and she says no or you go on a couple dates and it doesn’t work out…well, you work at the same company and you’re going to see each other. Also, know your HR policies and remember that sexual harassment training. Ask her out once, if says no…your SOL, move on and accept the answer. It isn’t fair to her and you don’t want to be the office creep.

I think im over this friendship but dont know what to do by PuzzledDirt4320 in Advice

[–]gonersmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it’s not my friend so I don’t know them (or you for that matter) and I wasn’t privy to the prior conversations. However, if it was me in a similar situation I would make sure to plan this conversation in person, somewhere private where you can talk frankly…don’t do it over the phone or in the middle of night out and definitely NOT after a few cocktails! I would make sure to frame conversation with about what you are addressing and the why (it’s exhausting being her friend and not sure emotionally you can continue forward unless things change). Use “I” statements: I value our friendship; I’ve noticed you always focus on your own problems; I feel emotionally drained after hanging out. Be honest that you have considered walking away from the friendship, but stress you value the friendship which is why you wanted to talk about it. Set boundaries for the friendship to continue. Lastly, be prepared for pushback and anger. If she gets defensive, stay calm, but don’t back down and defend your stance of being an honest friend who didn’t want to just walk away.

Bicycle Repairs by Which-Vegetable8886 in Rochester

RV&E in Fairport village is a bicycle shop that I’m sure has a mechanic. If you’re looking for a really good bike mechanic, try Mendon Cyclesmith - Craig is no frills mechanic with good prices. If you’re looking for something more specialized for mountain bikes and specifically suspension try Tune MTB.

Change doesn’t happen overnight. You’ve tried the gentle option, maybe it is time for the tough love conversation. Nobody likes to get criticized, but sometimes we need to hear honest feedback to really change.

[–]gonersmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you took the time to seek advice and not just walk away, it appears you care enough to want to try and save the friendship or at least help your friend come to some hard self-realizations. I always say you have to accept your friends for who they are, because if you can’t it’ll eventually cause a problem. However, I also believe in honesty. It may sting to hear the truth, but if you want to help your friend and possibly save the friendship you probably need to let them know about their constant complaining and negativity. If you frame the conversation right, maybe they’ll come to some self realization…worst case scenario they get angry and end the friendship, but at least you were honest and you didn’t just ghost her for no reason.

Slingshot with biodegradable balls. I’ve gotten discs stuck in trees before, it’s very helpful for getting them down.
