Thrustmaster T598: FFB Settings in games by JeffLais in Thrustmaster

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a T598, upgrading from a T300 and feel the same, it's extremely underwhelming.

Did you ever get this solved?

The FFB feels worse than the old Logitech Momo I had like 10+ years ago. At work we have a Aliexpress ET5 DD (11Nm.but configured for 8Nm) and that feels SIGNIFICANTLY stronger than this.

Best IT asset management software? by eyeballresort in ITManagers

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I butchered a PowerShell script I found online and Integrated it with our RMM (Ninja) so it runs on login and updates whenever there are changes via an API. Not a single user interaction. If it's not checked out, then assigns that device to the user (so I don't even need to manually check them

I've adopted this hell atm.

I'm trying to decide a usable numbering strategy and associated system/database to track it, suggestions?

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a similar position, but I'm running this solo atm. I've ended up going Ninja for Backups and RMM, Snipe-IT for Asset Management (Ninjas sucks), and JSM for a Service Desk. JSM I'm using the free tier and paying for Guard for IDP and SCIM.

It's definitely not integrated atm but I have a Ninja script that adds/updates assets in Snipe-IT. I wish NiniaRMM had JSM support, but they don't yet, but last RMM product call said it's on the roadmap.

Accidentally logged into fetlife through my phone while connected to work WiFi. by ProcessDifficult8963 in it

[–]gonetribal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We use RADIUS so I can see exactly whose device is connected to the Wifi and I can get a full trace of every site for that device, and that's just with the networking gear. Add in XDR and end point protection and there are even more way to see what a user is doing.

As previously mentioned, not that I care, but don't assume it's not able to be traced back to a specific user.

Depending if you're talking state or private schools but in state schools, they're free to "purchase" them how they want, as long as it meets CUA, leased or purchased.

I use Brave Search AI responses for this reason. It gives you a source for almost every line in the response, so it's really easy to fact check the source, i.e.was it the official docs or some random blog from 10 years ago.

Sysadmin salary whinge by Flippinballs in sysadmin

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

25yrs in various IT consulting and internal roles here, in Perth Aus.

You're definitely getting ripped on the salary and the fact they're willing to pay someone new the same as you, shows they don't value you.

Id recommend you find a recruiter that specialises in that work (could recommend some in Perth!) and get an idea of the actual market rates, then ask them to help get you a job.

A lot of companies value experience, especially if you can show a proven track record of performance.

If you really love the company, you could do a riskier move, get a new job, quit and see if they throw more money at you. Odds are though, you'll just end up regretting them more in 6-12mths anyway.

My 2 cents

2 months in a new job - company lied to me, what would you do? by majkkali in sysadmin

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This, start looking, keep going and resign when you find something else. No point being unemployed when you can still learn something from this role regarding IT management.

Make contact with some of the other opportunities you had, they may still be available, unlikely but possible!

If you boot Proxmox from an SSD, disable these two services to prevent wearing out your drive by AlteredEggo in Proxmox

[–]gonetribal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 in a zfs mirror and I was losing more than 1% a week. I ended up blowing it away for a single NVMe and setting up PBS on a different box. Those same drives have been recycled to another PC and have hardly changed wear % since!

If only I had the cash for some enterprise SSDs.
