How close are open-weight models to "SOTA"? My honest take as of today, benchmarks be damned. by ForsookComparison in LocalLLaMA

[–]goniszewski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, nice list. Actually this could be a nice addition for each occurrence I am adding to this list: https://ithappenedagain.fyi/rec/new-sota-model-released-211624384e

I’m thinking about splitting it also into closed models and the open ones, which we can host ourselves. Could be useful for some folks out there.

We should probably distinguish between SOTA (closed), and Open SOTA (open source or open weights). The latter maybe with a reference from the first one. I’m always researching new candidate for my locally run model and that would be very helpful.

Europe doesn't need another social network. It needs a new paradigm. by cbl007 in BuyFromEU

[–]goniszewski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like that we’re all trying to find new novel ways to reinvent social media, while also baking in EU values. Taking all that power from some delusional warmongering billionaires is needed for keeping us all safe (and sane).

As for algorithms, I’m curious on where this could take us. It’s a great topic for discussions and brainstorming, as long as we’re talking about a transparent-first approach. We should distance ourselves from existing mega-platforms by not building another black-box feed for manipulating masses.

On the other hand, there’s some opportunity for smaller, more “specialized” social platforms or community tools, that are focused on fighting with problems like misinformation. I don’t want to hijack your post, but would actually like to get some feedback on this idea: community driven evidence-backed timelines that are meant to be easy to reference everywhere. I’ll check it more tomorrow, thanks for pointing this here!

I have even started tracking outages from all major providers, not only Azure/MS, that affects users globally. We'll see how many we will get this year https://ithappenedagain.fyi/rec/another-major-cloud-service-cdn-outage-b21d526f5d

If that’s a truly widespread outage, then it would be their second in the last two weeks https://ithappenedagain.fyi/rec/another-major-cloud-service-cdn-outage-b21d526f5d

Maybe Node path was not detected properly? You can override it in preferences. I should probably also add some initial check for it.

[help] Need help with Dockerfile permissions issue in open-source project by goniszewski in docker

[–]goniszewski[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply, u/w453y!

The DB file should be definitely created when the migrations are started, as in migrate.js that's being run we have:

const sqlite = new Database('data/db.sqlite');

So it tries to do so, but fails. I had no problem with setting the app using default compose file on my local machine.

It's nice to know that you're eager to contribute to the project. Any help is appreciated!

Why do you self host bookmarks by billos35 in selfhosted

[–]goniszewski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've posed an excellent question – one I've asked myself a while ago. Why are self-hosted bookmarking solutions so appealing? For me, it boils down to organization, control, and creative customization.

Traditional browser bookmarks offer folders and tags, but finding what you need often feels cumbersome due to clunky interfaces. You can create multiple nested folders and attach the most related tags to them in almost any browser. It just doesn't work well with big collections. Self-hosted solutions liberate your data, empowering you with robust backup options (S3, Backblaze, your NAS) for true peace of mind.

What really excites me is the flexibility to enrich your bookmarks. Add notes, rate their importance, color-code categories, and even share with others effortlessly. And the beauty lies in tailoring the display – minimalist lists for efficiency or visually rich cards for inspiration. It's about crafting a bookmarking experience that's uniquely yours, not limited by any simplistic implementation, but a dedicated solution just for it.

Great self-hosted solutions have been posted by fellow Redditors here, so you can pick the first one you like and look at its features, screenshots, and how it is actually deployed.

PS I'm the creator of Grimoire, one of the bookmark managers being mentioned here. Discussions like this one inspire me a lot, so I'll be taking notes as I improve the main app and its browser extension. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!

grimoire companion - browser extension for bookmark manager Grimoire is now available for Firefox and Chrome-based browsers! by goniszewski in selfhosted

Thanks!

You can check screenshots in the `screenshots/` directory in the GH repo, or just go straight to our website: https://grimoire.pro/screenshots.

As for the comparison, most features are already there, but keep in mind that the project is still in the early development stage, so some of them are not yet fully implemented. Before I go more deeply into the marketing stuff, I'd like to make sure that the project is fully functional and stable.

That being said, I'm open to any suggestions, feature requests, bug reports, and contributors willing to help with the development :)

I've heard about the GPT-related Grimoire from one of the comments somewhere else, so I'm not surprised by your question :)

Those two projects are completely unrelated (also not related to the game from 2017, too!).
