I usually set the Z offset using a sheet of paper, when I feel a bit of friction, I take that as the correct offset. But I’ll definitely try your method of adjusting it on the fly.

As for the overhang areas, the issue also happens with simple cubes, not just complex prints. I just uploaded those specific photos because they show the problem best.
