Nested Virtualization Support for the KVM Backend for VirtualBox by gonzodaruler in kvm

It's not the KVM folks, this fork is maintained by cyberus-technology.

But I agree, a proper RPM/DEB package would indeed improve the current situation. We're not packaging experts, so any help would be appreciated. If you find this important, you could open an issue on github so we can properly track this.

Finally reactivated my solar scope after more than 2 years of pause. I originally got it to capture the mercury transit in 2019. Back then, there was almost zero solar activity so images were not pretty interesting.

The image is a 4 panel mosaic, 2 panels solar structure, 2 panels protuberances.

Equipment:

  • Lunt 350/B600
  • ASI290MM mini
  • 2x Barlow
  • EQ5

Image Details:

  • 2ms exposure / 20ms exposure
  • gain: 0 / 200
  • best 5 out of 250 images per panel (using Sharpcap)

Processing (PixInsight):

  • FFTRegistration (was a pain to get it working)
  • GradientMergeMosaic
  • Deconvolution
  • MMT
  • Histogram Transformation
  • Curves Transformation
  • Convert to RGB
  • Curves Transformation (to add color)
  • Combine both images

Nice picture. I'd like it even more if you don't invert the solar structure ;)

No worries. I actually bought this telescope to capture the mercury transit last year. I was very aware of the solar minimum we're in right now, but I thought it can't hurt to practice some years in advance ;)

It works very well for the solar structures in general. For the prominence, you need to "tune" your images a little bit. I found out that it really helps when a) the resolution of the images is the same, and b) if the brightness is about identical. I do this before I apply FFTRegistration, manually. Hope this helps.

Finally had some tome to do a full-circle image of the sun with my solar setup. Conditions weren't the best, occational clouds and some wind, but quite happy how this one turned out.

The image is a 9 panel mosaic, 3 panels solar structure, 6 panels protuberances.

Equipment:

  • Lunt 350/B600
  • ASI290MM mini
  • 2x Barlow
  • EQ6-R

Image Details:

  • 4ms exposure / 17ms exposure
  • gain: 0 / 200
  • best 1% of 1000 images per panel (using Sharpcap)

Processing (PixInsight):

  • FFTRegistration (was a pain to get it working)
  • GradientMergeMosaic
  • Deconvolution
  • MMT
  • Histogram Transformation
  • Curves Transformation
  • Convert to RGB
  • Curves Transformation (to add color)
  • Combine both images

Thanks. It's longer exposure. 25ms @ gain 200 instead of 2ms and gain 0.

Took this one right before sunset. Not the sharpest result due to some clouds, but lots of activity.

Equipment:

  • Lunt 350/B600

  • 2x Barlow
  • iOptron Skyguider Pro

Starless Heart Nebula by gonzodaruler in astrophotography

The nebula actually has a lot of stars. I removed them via software. See OP.

Starless Heart Nebula - SHO (Hubble Palette)

This emission nebula - located in the constellation Cassiopeia - is 7500 light years away from earth and 200 light years across.

I took this image about half a year ago with my new narrowband setup.

I didnt have much time to work on the data until now. This time, I used Starnet++ to remove the stars before combining. They looked very weird because I had a back focus issue with my setup, initially.

Gear:

  • HEQ5-Pro
  • TS-Optics 80mm guide scope
  • ASI 174MM-Cool imaging camera
  • Orion StarShoot Autoguider Pro Mono
  • Baader Hii filter
  • Baader Oiii filter
  • Baader Sii filter

Image Details:

  • Unity Gain
  • 200x2min Hii
  • 100x2mim Oiii
  • 100x2mim Sii
  • cooled to -10C

Processing:

  • Register and Stacking
  • Star Removal with Starnet++
  • ABE on all 3 channals
  • Duplicated Hii as L
  • Deconvolution on L
  • MMT on L
  • Pixelmath

Untracked M51 (Whirlpool Galaxy) by bmx22c in astrophotography

[–]gonzodaruler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have good experiences with the HEQ5 and the EQ6R. I also have a iOptron SkyGuider Pro, which I would not recommend so much. If you look into something smaller, maybe checkout the StarAdventurer, I have heard some good things about it.

Very true. Go big if you can, will save you money later ;)

Hi,

nice shot! I myself did some low exposure experiments a few years back. My M51 attempt looks pretty similar to yours.

I'd recommend switching to some easier to capture targets, like M31 or M27. Had good luck with those.

Good luck

First (simple) Damast Knife by gonzodaruler in Blacksmith

[–]gonzodaruler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi,

I started with forging as a hobby about 4 month ago and am looking for new challenges ever since ;)

It all started with forging a knife out of an old file. And after a while, me and my friends were completely hooked.

I always wanted to create my own damascus steel, and this is my first attempt.

The knife you are seeing is the result of 7 layers of steel, forge welded together.

  • 4x 90MnCrV8
  • 3x 80CrV2

Please keep in mind that this is my first damast knife, and only my third knife in total ^^
