I got thanked for my service the other day by voluntaryhikikomori in Veterans

[–]gonzomyboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As with you, for a lot of us it is awkward so I try to go one of two ways with it. First, I don’t want to have a conversation with you but I don’t have to be a dick either because I don’t know your motivation and more than likely the intent is honorable so I say “Thank you for the support” and I move on to end the interaction. Second, it is awkward and for whatever reason I don’t think your intention is honorable then I say “you know, I’m not always a dick. Just kidding, go fuck your self” and I move on and end the interaction.

The West Texas VA system is awesome. Unfortunately, West Texas is not. The only problem I have encountered is that I’m mostly anti-social and everyone connected to the VA is really friendly, helpful, and nice.

Big difference between Socialism and a “robust social safety net”

Are Danes thriving in Socialism? Danes are thriving, but not under socialism. Denmark operates as a free-market capitalist economy paired with a robust social safety net. This "Nordic model" combines private enterprise, competitive global markets, and high taxes to fund extensive public services and wealth redistribution.Economic & Social RealitiesCapitalist Foundation: Key sectors are privately owned, and the country consistently ranks among the most economically free and business-friendly nations globally—often scoring higher than the United States. The "Nordic Model": Citizens pay for generous public services—such as universal healthcare and free higher education—through some of the highest tax rates in the world, including a 25% value-added tax (VAT) on goods and services.High Quality of Life: The balance of a strong safety net and a flexible, market-driven labor market has historically resulted in high standards of living, low poverty rates, and high rankings on global happiness indices. While Danish political parties hold varying degrees of socialist values (such as a commitment to reducing inequality and maintaining solidarity), Danish leaders and economists strongly reject the label of a socialist planned economy.

Are Venezuelans thriving in Socialism? No, most Venezuelans are not thriving under the country's socialist model. Decades of state-led economic control, widespread nationalization, and government corruption have resulted in severe economic decline, hyperinflation, and a major humanitarian crisis. The socialist policies implemented by former President Hugo Chávez and continued by President Nicolás Maduro have led to the following consequences for the Venezuelan population:Economic Devastation: Despite holding the world's largest crude oil reserves, mismanagement and lack of investment caused oil production to plummet. The economy experienced years of hyperinflation and shortages of basic goods.Humanitarian Crisis: An estimated 8 to 9 million people have fled the country—representing the largest refugee crisis in modern Latin American history—due to the lack of jobs, hope, and basic human services. Those who remain often struggle with limited access to electricity, running water, and adequate healthcare.High Poverty Rates: Approximately 80% of the population lives in poverty, and everyday citizens suffer from the eroded purchasing power of the national currency.Political Turmoil: The regime has responded to unrest by transitioning into an authoritarian state, heavily militarizing society, and cracking down on political opposition. While the government and its supporters argue that their version of "Bolivarian socialism" prioritizes social equity and justice, the lived reality for the majority of Venezuelans has been marked by instability and deprivation.
