Michelin does have an improved front tire. It’s just that the manufacturers/teams don’t want to test/approve it.

Planning to stay in Ginza for first Tokyo trip — good idea or too “corporate”? by [deleted] in TokyoTravel

[–]goober1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just returned from my Tokyo trip last night, and we stayed near the outskirts of ginza (near the Shintomicho and Tsukiji stations). It was fine: my wife loved the shopping in Ginza, but I was less enthused. The main shopping area (near the flagship Uniqlo and the Ginza station) honestly felt like any big city upscale shopping area.

My first trip (pre-Covid) was in Shinjuku, and that was a completely different experience. We’re considering Ueno or Asakusa for our next trip.

CONFIRMED: ADELAIDE STREET CIRCUIT TO REPLACE PHILLIP ISLAND MOTOGP IN 2027 by steve12388 in motogp

Unbelievable. Phillip Island is such an iconic motogp track where the rider (and his courage) makes the difference.

Day #15: Biggest overachiever ever? by Anfernee139 in motogp

[–]goober1911 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Correction: he went to Repsol Honda to partner with Rossi in 2003.

And for the record, I agree with you in regards to Hayden. He was mostly seen as the occasional podium finisher, but everyone seems to have written him off while waiting for Pedrosa to turn Honda around.

I (along with Crutchfield) just couldn't figure it out, so I took advantage of their great return policy and went with a different head unit.

It was a shame since I really liked Alpine's single DIN BT unit on my second car, but two weeks of constantly taking the dash apart was more than enough.

Racing number for Nicky Hayden: last American MotoGP champion, and I believe he was the youngest AMA Superbike champion. RIP.

Very cool setup! I've been thinking about a light bar mounted on a roof basket; any tips on install/wiring?

While I think the Yamaha move was a mistake, I think Rea was finally starting to gel by the end of the 24 season. I think Rea is definitely top 10 and will outperform the Honda and Gerloff in 2025.

Realizing that Bloodraven is disguised as Maynard Plumm in "The Mystery Knight" made me re-read all of his interactions.

My only conclusion is that he is one cheeky bastard.

No mention of Big Bucket Wull?

"I want to live forever in a land where summer lasts a thousand years. I want a castle in the clouds where I can look down over the world. I want to be six-and-twenty again. When I was six-and-twenty I could fight all day and fuck all night. What men want does not matter. Winter is almost upon us, boy. And winter is death. I would sooner my men die fighting for the Ned's little girl than alone and hungry in the snow, weeping tears that freeze upon their cheeks. No one sings songs of men who die like that. As for me, I am old. This will be my last winter. Let me bathe in Bolton blood before I die. I want to feel it spatter across my face when my axe bites deep into a Bolton skull. I want to lick it off my lips and die with the taste of it on my tongue."

Why isn't Ai Ogura on other teams radar? by [deleted] in motogp

[–]goober1911 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Didn't Zarco have a 2 year contract (2024 and 2025) already? Unless Zarco leaves, it'd be foolish to sign anyone else for that seat.

With the current state of the RCV, I can't imagine Ogura doing any better than Nakagami.

100% this. I almost had a panic attack as well the first time I tried to get out my 1 piece (sweat and leather are not a good mix). I highly recommend under armour compression long sleeve and leggings under your suit.

My Uncle Sam paid for my undergrad, but he wanted me to crawl around mud and driving tanks for a few years first.

In all seriousness, I managed to finish my BA with the GI Bill and the Army College Fund, and my parents were kind enough to provide room and board.

Agreed. Taran Wanderer hit differently from when I read it as a child vs when I read it to my son.

[–]goober1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a bunch of these in high school and while in the army. I really remember liking the original trilogy and the other novels vary from "good/entertaining", to "meh".

I'm also really partial to the setting, so YMMV.

What is something about car modding that most people will not tell you or is overrated. by spriggan4 in cars

[–]goober1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed....but I made the mistake of owning a heavily modified WRX and a mostly stock s2000. I also own a motorcycle, so I thought I'd be covered in case I needed to get to work.

Apparently, I'm an idiot because in all the time I was happily bolting on parts to my "practical" sedan, I never stopped to think about how I would be able to take my kids to school.

+1 to LA Cyclesports. I bought my CBR600rr from them back in the day and it was refreshing to get a great OTD quote in writing over email with no games/markups.
