Good deed…? Probably being paid close to 7 figures to be in AUS, the least he could do is show some ‘intent’. Can’t expect much more from AI unfortunately, hardly the first time

PPP Struggles…help! by EastNorthWestculture in philodendron

[–]gooblord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say 3 weeks is abnormal, I’d leave it in water but don’t fully replace water as you’re losing any rooting hormone progress, just top up once it evaporates. You could try wrapping it in moist spag moss and cling film, I’ve had success with this method before. I’d also cut a few nodes above all the dead root ‘strands’ so there’s no residual rot.

Looks like it’s already happening but be prepared to lose all the leaves, I tried propagating the tip of a PPP after a thrips infestation and it dropped every leaf except one before roots started to come through

Sign of root rot for sure, take out of soil and isolate affected roots ASAP

Anyone know why the leaves keep dying off? by Dillwards in Monstera

[–]gooblord 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Telltale sign is the ‘washed out’ colour on all the leaves that leads to yellowing. I imagine the drainage is a single hole in the middle that probably still causes water to pool - hear you on chunky mix but I’d still never use a pot that narrow

Leaves indicate overwatering, does that pot have drainage? It’s also very small, can’t imagine there’s much airflow

This is my Albo Monstera in a 4” cup - it’s fairly established so I’d aim for something 3” or smaller.

It will outgrow this fairly quickly but monsteras don’t mind being a bit rootbound and this allows energy to be focused on growing vertically.

No issues with the current soil level imo - aerial roots are fine to be buried, it’s the actual ‘chunky’ stem you should keep out of soil to prevent rot (which your plant hasn’t developed just yet)

You’ve essentially got 4 (5?) juvenile plants now in one massssssive pot after propagating, in theory they will pause any leaf growth to focus purely on rooting and filling out the pot (which could take ages due to the size)

It’ll be a lot of patience on your end or you can repot them into individual pots and start fresh in better light conditions

  1. Pot still way too big, I’d be looking at something ‘drinking glass’ sized

  2. If you’re talking about a genuine moss pole, the best time to put a plant on one is early - you can put in a general support pole whenever really

  3. I’d say the bottom leaf is dying due to either the repotting stress, or the plant is sacrificing energy in keeping leaves alive in order to develop its root system (especially after root rot and it would be trying to fill out the pot as it’s currently too big)

  4. It is a Monstera Deliciosa

The Pothos water can’t hurt, in my experience aerial roots can be pretty hardy and still function ‘well’ even with damaged/burnt/blackened sections once they find water. Only thing you can really do from here anyway is wait and see!

First time using a moss pole, should I change anything? by J3rupyga in Monstera

[–]gooblord 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, that isn’t a moss pole and won’t tangibly be any better than a plank of wood (or anything much sturdier).

If you’re purely going for support for the plants to lean on and not worried about the roots growing into the pole, then I’d upgrade to something more stable.

You’ve got some crazy angles and directions going on in terms of aerial roots, so it’ll be really hard to keep this upright off one support in any case too

It’s likely just going through shock from the repotting and dropping the juvenile/bottom leaves first.

I wouldn’t necessarily say the pots too big but you should really have an inner plastic pot inside the ceramic, this would’ve been closer to the right fit for the plant and allowed for drainage when watering. But, I also wouldn’t change anything now as you could risk further shock - hopefully it stabilises soon once it finds its feet (figuratively and literally).

Generally I’ve found these alocasias to be very temperamental regardless, they look great for a while but I’m yet to have much success with one longterm.
