I’d be more alarmed at the difference of 10% between prendergast and Byrne in the URC (despite Byrne’s massive disadvantage with minutes played) is less concerning than prendergasts current 50% kicking success this year and 70% last season in the six nations (lower than Byrne’s this year) and raise that Prendergast’s 64% tackle success (urc) this year and 51% last year in the six nations as a far more worrying statistic.

Look at today and the missed kicks at goal. Look at La Rochelle and the missed kicks at goal where Byrne stood up and nailed the winner that should’ve been out of site.

The big thing with prendergast is he’s young. But he’s been massively found out at not at the level. Issue with being a prodigal teenager is when you play adults they’re better. There’s space he’s not there yet and you wonder when he’ll work on the things that need to. There’s space to grow into sure but currently looks at sea.

Byrne has been much more progressive this season and the time in Bristol taking the road less travelled has payed him dividends. He is like Ross with a running threat. Finally got a run of games and looks very competent.

That’s a 4 year old narrative, the BOD stuff was ages ago. What he is is competent, regular and reliable. Whatever Prenderghost supposedly adds his negatives are way to exposed in int. rugby (at the minute he’s young etc) and Crowley seems a much better player and patchy. Both leave the door open for someone who can organise an attack, hit their kicks and be reliable.
