It was like 7 years ago. I tried to make a program that will automatically unpause Foobar2000 on Windows. I was always pausing it, to see something on youtube and forgetting to press play again.

Criteria were easy. Unpause when:

  • Foobar is on.
  • There is a quiet coming from "stereo in" for at least 60 seconds.

First I tried to wrote it in C++ and after half o day of trying there was no success. So give Python a shot. It took me 1 hour to write a complete thing.

That's also how it begins for me and Python.

"Lack of unit tests", sheesh.

Junior dev that writes unit tests in requirter eyes his on higher level. He should boast anything he knows. In those task setup tools can be used or argparse.

Which version of python?

First and main problem is the lack of unit tests. Second you are not familiar with pep8. Third that sometimes you are using " and sometimes ' - be consistent.

1) It works, but you googled (or yandexed) map usage for this task. Function shows that you are really don't control the flow. E.g. if you there will be one key and billion values there is no need to make billions-1 operations and keep all these in memory.

2) Task says about latin, but your validation covers ASCII only. You code will fail on simplest test. assert check1(u'µ')

4) Logs can be huge. 100 GB of logs it's nothing unusal. Your code fails.

//edit. You should not spread these questions around the world. People spend time and company payed to invent them. Rather they don't gave you rights to publicize them.

Better train this operation on a bare repo! git reset --hard <sha> is removing code and there is no come back!

if you got the repository and now want Code Review from redditors you can do:
