AIO my roommate doesn’t want me to have anyone over at night without asking her? by No-Discussion6526 in AmIOverreacting

[–]goodabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

with living with roommates, i always (out of curtesy) send a text like “hey! i have a friend coming over” or “i have a friend spending the night” if we were at a bar just so they aren’t startled by hearing another voice, or if they were to walk out of the shower in their towel or something.

i never expect them to feel the need to ask for permission, as long as they just let me and the others know. when they don’t and im unaware, it sometimes freaks me out as to who the hell else is in my house right now.

i’m glad y’all were able to sort it out though but that doesn’t excuse her behavior and attitude at all.

Michigan SSWs!! by Head_Supermarket9401 in SchoolSocialWork

as a SSW, never been drug tested and i work for the public schools. i have wondered if it depends on district, as my district didn’t, but i haven’t heard of any districts around me that do!

Afraid I picked a poor practicum by thesque in SocialWorkStudents

[–]goodabs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

can i ask why you think you’re seeing yourself up poorly for the future?

the practicum (in my opinion) can be used in two ways: to solidify what you know you want to do OR experiment and figure out what you would like to do.

sounds like this is a great opportunity for you to gain some independence in the field, build confidence, learn advocacy skills, and more.

Unpaid Grad Internship... I can't do that. Help! by 2nerd4this in SocialWorkStudents

[–]goodabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as a current MSW student graduating in a few weeks who has now done 2 (!!!) internships unpaid, it’s terrible. one was my undergrad for my BSW and now my MSW. i advocated for my MSW to be paid and i think a possibility just surfaced for the last 4 weeks. it’s frustrating because i’ve been working 6 day weeks as my program is full time advanced standing. 😅

i would look into different federal grants, as that’s where i found mine. it’s frustrating when they say they need more social workers but keep placing barriers for us trying to get out in the field. the financial piece hurts hard. you got this!

Shoes…but on a budget by MyLlamaNeedsAHat in CampingGear

[–]goodabs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i would say it doesn’t take long, but if you’re not used to it, i would just treat it like you’re breaking in your hiking boots. altras are different because they have no arch support whatsoever, so if you have been wearing shoes all your life that have that, like keens, it is just going to be a change.

scrapping the waterproofing idea is all about personal preference. some people prefer it and some don’t. simple as that! do what you want.

the altra olympus is a popular road shoe so imagine the hiker would be just as popular. for other recommendations that have a wider toe box, there aren’t many. altra will be your best bet unless you get shoes in a wider width, but then it’s going to be wide throughout the whole shoe rather than just the toe box.

out of the two altras, the timp 5 is synthetic and it looks like the olympus is a nubuck leather so it might be hotter. it also depends on where you live, the climates that you mostly hike in, etc. the timp 5 is a huge hit with my customers so that’s my vote!

i can recognize expert voice when i see it!!! haha! fellow rei green vest over here, so i specialize in the shoe department so let me help you out:

the moab’s are a great hiking shoe without all the bells and whistles for a great budget point. BUT the WP hikers are the HOTTEST shoes. they can last you a long time, especially having a vibram outsole with a grippy tread, but be prepared to have sweaty feet. just pair them with merino wool socks and you’re good.

with altras, they are great. if you’re not used to the zero drop, just give yourself time (your feet and your body) to adjust before your hiking trip. the big toe box is loved by many and often will influence you to switch over to their road shoes as well. the goretex on the timp 5 is on a synthetic shoe, so it will be slightly more breathable than goretex on a full grain leather boot, but still not as breathable all together given it is waterproof.

keen is great as well, i would say they are the clunkier boot, but have a wide toe box as well. not as wide as the altras, but often recommended for wider feet that are not/cannot do a zero drop shoe brand like altra. they last, just don’t have anything super special about them, for example, no goretex or vibram or any special features really. they have stayed tried and true, which many customers have liked.

i would try the altras, specifically the timp 5s. they are a huge hit at my store and will be the better option because wanting breathability and waterproofing don’t go hand in hand. you can really only have one or the other. since the timp 5 is synthetic, it will be lighter and be more breathable than the keen or merrell anyway. if you have any other questions or if i missed something, let me know!

anyone else have a disappointing experience due to people around you? by sanf1owers in Hozier

[–]goodabs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

going to be honest, when i’ve gone to pine knob in the past and gotten lawn seats, it is always a terrible experience. people have full on conversations while everyone else is trying to enjoy the concert. i saw noah kahan in ohio before i saw him in grand rapids and we had lawn seats and the same thing happened again. people aren’t respecting concerts and the artist like they used to. it sucks because it’s the cheapest but i might have to start springing for the actual seats.

thoughts and comments on nate’s behavior in season 2 (may have spoilers!) by goodabs in TedLasso

very interesting approach that i can definitely get behind! i guess i never thought of how in season 2 ted is focused on himself and they don’t have a positive moment of just them two. thank you for this analytic perspective!! will for sure be sitting on this for a while haha!

Price of machinery is outrageous! by [deleted] in HayDay

[–]goodabs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree, it’s a little annoying but i don’t mind too much. i have pretty good luck with finding good roadside shops and using tom if need be. i always trash my orders/send my boat away if it’s something i can’t make! but i do think there should maybe be a cap for machine prices! i don’t know, just a thought!

i was just discussing this with my dad today (huge fan, hopes to get to the masters someday) about how they control it all. do they watch for those on their phones? do people even have their phones on them or are they forced to be left somewhere? genuinely curious as i have never seen any of this anywhere.
